"Enjoyable stay, will be back."

9.0

Historic building. Staff attitude and helpfulness. Swimming pool. Bar staff and food. Afternoon tea.

Heavy duty thick duvets, would be helpful if they were changed to summer light ones as the season changes.

Räumlichkeiten sind sehr stilvoll, die Lage ist perfekt, ruhig. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Das Schwimmbad und die Umkleidekabinen sind etwas in die Jahre gekommen.

"Would love to stay here again"

10.0

Attended a wedding here and the staff were absolutely amazing, could not do enough for their guests ( including our puppy!). Rooms are lovely and the pool and library area were well received by our family. Brilliant location, easily accessible and very dog friendly. Thank you for making our stay so special.

"Beautiful setting, poor hotel"

2.0

The Grange - A hotel in a beautiful setting that is let down by the standard of the rooms (at least the one we stayed in) and some very basic issues that could be addressed.  Positives - The staff.  They are so friendly and helpful (unless you ask for a coffee in the morning, but more of that later). The Setting.  Grange over Sands is a beautiful village with lots of independent shops that boasts a stunning promenade walk looking out to sea. The hotel is set in lovely grounds that lend themselves perfect for weddings, especially outdoors weather allowing.  Negatives - The rooms.  We were in 107, a front facing room that had a huge bed. The huge bed was the only positive. I'm not sure which room was used for the photos on their website, but it wasn't 107. There is no space at all.  There's no full length hanging space, only right at the end of the rail, which means you then cannot shut the door to the wardrobe. There's also insufficient space to put stuff down on tables. We were there for a wedding and stayed for two nights.  As you know (and this isn't a dig at all) ladies come with a lot of 'stuff' (make up, jewellery etc.) and there is no space to put all of this.  The only table you have is also the one where you make your tea and coffee during your stay. There is also no full length mirror.  The bathroom was tiny....it was no more than 8ft by 5ft and had a shower, sink and toilet in this space.  If you sat on the toilet you were virtually in the sink, and the shower had an end that was open so the water hit the walls and floor during use. The shower tray only has a small ridge to stop the water coming out, and on first use the drain was blocked and this flooded the bathroom and our room.  We reported this to the staff, and we got sent an extra bathmat!  The space to get in and out of the shower is insufficient.  Anybody with any kind of mobility issues (no matter how small) should completely avoid room 107, you will have no chance in the bathroom. There is no Shaver plug in the bathroom, so no option to use an electric shaver (take a plug with you) or charge an electric toothbrush. There is a tiny amount of space to put stuff down (think toothbrushes, toothpaste etc), and nowhere to put your own toiletries (shampoo, shower gel etc) in the shower apart from on the floor.  The Spa - The hotel boasts a Spa (I cannot comment on the treatments as we did not have any). The sauna and steam room were tiny.  You cannot fit anymore than two people in there at once.  The sauna wasn't working and be careful if you sit in the steam room as the steam comes from a pipe near the floor that could easily burn you if you were sat too close to it (this happened to us).  There is also no way of informing the staff of any issues when you're in the spa...nobody wants to come out wet to reception.  There are no robes to wear (only small towels) and no way of ringing reception. The gents changing area has six lockers with enough space for two people to get changed (it's one way to get to know somebody well!) and only one shower. I cannot comment on the ladies changing area.  Other issues. I came down on Saturday morning at around 6am and asked for a tea or a coffee.  I was told that the only place I could get a drink was in my room.  There was no space to make a drink in our room (see earlier room comments). I came back down later (around 7.30am) and was given the same answer as the staff were preparing breakfast (service starts at 8am) they couldn't make a separate tea or coffee. The room where breakfast is served is uncomfortably hot, with no ability to open any windows or doors (we did ask). The food was good, with an acceptable range of breakfast items available. Some items required a £4 surcharge (eggs benedict, for example).  There is an outside fountain, which looks lovely until you realise the water is thick with bright green algae. It's so bad the water pumped up the fountain is also green.  This looked awful, and could easily be fixed.  We wanted to get away early on the Sunday, so I tried to check on the Saturday evening our room bill was clear so we could pay and leave early. There was a note on reception that said it was closed and to ask the Bar Staff for help.  I did this, but sadly the bar staff I spoke to hadn't got a clue how to check my room details. They found a member of reception staff (sat in the room behind reception) to check this.  I'm not sure why reception was closed when there was somebody there.  Summary. We paid £200 per night, so £400 for the two nights.  It's simply not worth it. We have stayed in a £35 per night Travelodge with more space than our room. Along with the other issues noted above, I'm afraid I would not recommend this hotel. I don't normally say this, but if any of the Grange management team are reading this, please don't bother contacting me (or replying on here) with an apology unless you are prepared to offer a refund for the issues encountered.  I would suggest you try and stay in the room for two nights and then look to fix the issues you encounter. Please also provide some tea/coffee facilities in the Bar area for use outside normal bar hours, or train your staff how to make tea/coffee and how to use your guest reception computers.   When people travel some considerable distance to stay in your hotel, they have no choice but to use everything you have to offer.  In this case, that was sadly lacking.
