The Charterhouse

I loved everything, from the moment of booking, until we left. My 8-year-old daughter and I were met with a warm welcome by Lisa. My daughter is really anxious and barely talks to strangers. Lisa had her speaking in French in as little as 3 minutes. Honestly, Lisa is so welcoming it just puts you at ease that fast. We were shown to our room, it was beautiful 😍 and clean. All the amenities and more. We gave Lisa our preferred time for breakfast for the next morning, we messaged our choices over later on that day. After a wonderful, peaceful, and cosy nights sleep, we headed down for breakfast. Beautiful breakfast room with a selection of cereals and juices. Lisa greeted us both. That's what really stood out to me. Lisa remembered my daughters name and engaged in conversation with her. This is the main reason I'm writing this review. I watched Lisa engage with everyone in the room, both adult and child, so welcoming and genuine. It was really lovely 😍 to see. Our breakfasts on both mornings were fantastic. We had the cooked breakfast the first morning, and pastries on the second. The cooked breakfast is filling and hot. Cooked to perfection 👌. The pastries were lovely and went down a treat with my little Miss. The entire break away was made so much better by staying here and not in a generic hotel. I can't recommend this place enough. We will definitely be returning next summer. Maddi might even have some new French words to share. Thank you so much for having us. Kelé and Maddi xxx

Nothing. Everything was perfect.

Lisa and Christophe are the loveliest hosts, so welcoming and accommodating, I felt like part of the family. The Charterhouse itself is wonderful with a pool and extensive gardens and is set back from the main road so you are not bothered by traffic. It is perfect for rest and relaxation. The beach is a short walk away, or there is a beautiful walk through the water meadows leading to tea rooms and a pub. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, and breakfast was delicious. I highly recommend and cannot wait to visit again.

Can’t fault anything about my stay at The Charterhouse. The place is STUNNING! Clean rooms, amazing hospitality, comfy beds, unreal breakfast. Location and parking were also great!

Genuinely nothing bad to say. Will be coming to stay again.

The only thing we weren‘t aware was that the Kitchen was opposite to our room. So when we arrived we had all that Bacon Scent in the Room and we were scared, that we‘ll wake up at 7am from sizzling Bacon Smell… Happy it wasn‘t that way - the other thing that bothered me was that Digital Registration. In every Accommodation we booked so far we never had to do so.

The Charterhouse was as advertised, only better. Our room was very comfortable and large. The couple who manage the hotel were very nice and easy to communicate with. The location is really special, in walking distance of Torquay, but a little removed on a quiet country lane, half a mile from the lovely Cockington Country Park. It is a lovely Edwardian building, well maintained. The cleanliness was really impressive.

Es war perfekt. Wundervolle Gastgeber. Ein grandioses Frühstück bei dem einem jeder Wunsch erfüllt wurde. Der Pool ist super, damit die Kinder nach dem Strand noch kurz planschen können. Das Zimmer war groß, perfekt ausgestattet und es hat für uns als 4-köpfige Familie nichts gefehlt.
