We had the best time as a family staying at Fern Grotto! I highly recommend it!

The location was perfect! It was a beautiful area. There was so many great amenities such as; kayaks, knee boards, paddle boards, surf board, coolers and snorkeling gear. The price was great! There were also fruit trees on the property you could eat from.

It was a little smaller than I thought it would be, but we would definitely stay here again.

Everything about this cute little place was cozy and comfortable. We loved it. We had a warm welcome, and a lovely stay all the way around.

The cottages are closer together than they seem, but it was not a big deal at all. We still enjoyed being here and would come back

The Ohana cabin is just beautiful and well equipped. It was a lovely place to stay during our week in Kaua’i and a good home base to explore the whole island.

A few issues were the loud traffic also at night on occasion, and the roosters starting at 4am. We ended up sleep deprived and groggy. Many windows don’t open, they appear printed „shut“, a bit more cross ventilation would have been nice (don’t like AC and closed windows). The bathroom in the back (right side of house) has a gap behind the sink where small amounts of water go in, Im afraid there will be mold behind the wood if not sealed.

The Fern Grotto Inn made our stay in Kapa'a very enjoyable. Our unit was compact yet comfortable, and the kitchenette was well-appointed with small appliances and cookware. The owner, Paul, was a gracious host, and we loved the gardens surrounding the cottages. Very convenient to the shops and restaurants in Kapa'a.

We appreciated the recreational equipment available to us: Kayak, bicycles, snorkeling gear, etc. The location was great, on a canal adjacent to the river, and close to beaches. Paul, the manager was available and very helpful. It was quiet and secluded.

The Inn was hard to find, with minimal signage. While centrally located, it was on a busy highway with intersections that were not entirely pedestrian friendly.

The place is located on the eastern part of the island with ease of going north or south to fully explore the island. It has an overall off the beaten path atmosphere. We stayed in the Garden cottage and it was plenty for us as we were mostly out and about. The garden cottage also provided a great view of the Wailua river! Hawaii is going to be expensive regardless, but this provided a more palatable solution. Room was very clean! For the most part, the place is really quiet, but if people are talking in the courtyards or adjacent state park it's pretty easy to hear in the room. Maybe some of the other cottages are different since the Garden is in the center. You also hear the chickens clucking about. You get used to it, but you do hear them in the early morning (sometimes it was 2-3 am). Check in and check out was super easy. We utilized the washer and dryer w/ soap to do some laundry as we spent a week and a half there. We also used the grill to BBQ some food which was nice.
