Fern Grotto Inn

We had a great 5 days in Kauai. Fern Grotto Inn was everything we hoped for and more - Paul and the staff go above and beyond in making your stay comfortable. From the treats at check in, to the great location, the beautiful flowers, the cleanliness, and having everything one could ask for and more available for our Kauai adventures, our stay was comfortable and happy. Mahalo, Paul and staff!

...but a great low-key option off the beaten path with plenty of amenities to borrow for your daily adventures. Like many others, kayaking up to the "secret" waterfall was a highlight of our stay.

The property was left unsecured and the keys placed inside the property.

We stayed in Coco D and it was perfect. The apartment had everything we needed and more. A coffee maker with a can of ground coffee next to a can with unground beans. Flowers everywhere. Next to the Wailua River with Kayaks provided if you want to paddle around. Close to everything—beaches, restaurants, and shopping. One of the best places we've stayed at during our 57 years of travel

If you are looking for an alternative to resorts or condos this is a great place, lovely cabins located along the Wailua River. Close to tourist attractions, restaurants and shopping. Most cabins have efficiency kitchens well stocked with equipment so you can do your own cooking if you want and there are outdoor grills as well. Owner has thought of all you might need and provides coffee and tea, beach towels, chairs, etc. There is laundry stocked with detergent and kyacks for your use on the river. You are close to all the main attractions on the island but not in a crowded noisy resort setting.

We had a wonderful time here at Fern Grotto Inn. We stayed in the Coco D unit, where we felt very welcome and completely at ease. We can highly recommend this apartment. Not all our accommodation experiences on Kauaʻi were positive — especially in Princeville, where the price-performance ratio was disappointing. In contrast, our stay here was the complete opposite: every detail is well thought-out and carefully considered. If we return to Kauaʻi, this is the only place we’d want to stay.

We stayed in Coco C and absolutely loved everything about our time here! We had the prettiest view from our room. We chose to only spend 1 day at a resort during our time on Kauai (and the rest of the week at Fern Grotto) and we’re so glad we did :) We were out exploring most of the time anyway, but coming back here every night felt like having our own private oasis in this tropical paradise. All of the little details are what set this Inn apart from others and we loved having tons of free gear (snorkels, coolers, frozen water bottles, kayaks, beach chairs, etc.) available to us. It was also great to be able to do laundry for free whenever we needed. Loved the location and how close it was to Lydgate Beach and the Wailua River. There were plenty of coffee shops and food places nearby. Loved that it was less than a 5 min drive to Coconut Marketplace, Lava Lava Beach Club, and other great places. If we’re ever lucky enough to visit the island again, we will for sure be booking here again! Thanks to Paul & Lila, we had a wonderful honeymoon week <3

It was a bit difficult to open/close one of our closet doors and the water pressure wasn't great in the kitchen sink, but those are my only two minor complaints :) Everything else was perfect and we would definitely stay here again!

Great area, easy parking. Safe, quiet. Adorable room. Very clean.

We stayed in CoCo A. Much bigger than it looks in pictures. 5* stay all round - peaceful - comfortable - well equipped - great location to explore Kauai - great host/ manager - great value vs a run of the mill holiday condo
