Queens Hotel

The location is perfect, close to everything. The view is nice, we had a nice sea view. The room was simple, but ok.

The staff was not there most of the time. We had to call them if we needed something. The bed was too small for 2 people, and not comfortable at all. the bathroom was not hitted very well. The walls are so thin we could hear our neighbors very well…

Water pressure and control of shower was a little confusing.

The hotel is under renovation and should not be accepting guests.the building is surrounded by scaffold . Has no facilities and no working reception .we refused to stay . This hotel is not fit for purpose and should not be on booking .coms list.

Everything it offered no more than a boarding house ina building site truly appalling .

The location was special as it was right beside the town & harbour of Lerwick. I loved that the room windows were above the sea and overlooking Bains Beach. The night staff were friendly. The beds were clean.

The ferry arrived at 7am and we were aware we couldn't book in until 2pm. We sat in the reception area for a while then called the number on the desk to say we had arrived. After a few attempts and leaving a message the owner finally called me back. He told us to put our heavy rucksacks behind the desk. We hadn't met any staff at this point so we decided to go walking until 2. On our return we were shown to our room which was cold. ( we were told they forgot to turn radiator on ). The TV was high on the wall and was far too small to watch, remote control didnt work, couldnt open windows ( painted shut), mould and old flaking paint on walls, The bathroom wasn't good. There was an old rusty double toilet roll holder, rusty towel rail, grubby shower curtain, none opening window, mould on the wall and no complementary shampoo/shower gel, only a basic hand wash on the sink. Night time sleep was disturbed by continuously running extractor fan from hallway toilet which night staff couldnt resolve. A few times the hall was engulfed by the smell of sewage? from hall toilet ( out of order and closed off ) and we had to take a deep breath before walking passed it. There was no bar and It did say we would have to eat out with the hotel. The next day I was informed by locals that the hotel is mainly used by companies for their workers ? I went to see the owner at his other hotel, which looked very fine. I wanted to let him know how disappointed we were with the hotel and service. He wasn't happy and told me he would contact Booking.com, cancel our room and we can pack our case & look for other accommodation. I told him, we are nearly 70 yr old, only 2 nights left on the island and would not be vacating the room as it would be very difficult to find another. No apology or care, only a shockingly bad attitude. This was a treat for an anniversary and £143 per night was not an acceptable price for what we got in return.

The decor inside the hotel really needs updating. Also the cleanliness needs looked at. Dirty stained cups. Both times i have stayed there and both times the toilet seats were unstable when sat on. No restaurant or bar open

The hotel gets lots of unfairly harsh reviews. It is rather tired, the carpets in the public areas are a bit worn and the decor is rather sombre, which does give it a bit of a depressing air when you first enter. However, the room was spotlessly clean, all the equipment worked well (WiFi, hot water, shower etc) and the bed was comfotable. Having no bar or restaurant (being refurbished) is a bit of a pain (although there are much better bars in the main street anyway). I had a pleasant two day stay, eating out in Lerwick town centre each day. OK, it's definitely not the Ritz, but if you apparoach it with the right attitude (a provincial hotel being refurbished) then I think you'll have a good time

Lovely hotel and my room looked right out onto the water , comfy bed, shower was hot and the staff are really nice and got an early check in.

Restaurant was closed but this was due to repairs, other than that it was spot on for what I needed.
