Queens Hotel

Had reservation 4/3 & 4/4/2025. Arrived no staff at front desk; had to call phone number for staff; bags of laundry in foyer; non working bar and restaurant.. looked at rooms - horrible condition- a fire trap. Limited view of water thru 24”x36” window that didn’t open. Paint peeling; bed not even level. Scaffolding along street side exterior. Very run down. We had to remit in advance and owner will not refund our money. We canceled after seeing rooms and condition of property. Don’t let hotel’s web site photos fool you- this property is a dump.

The location really worked well for us. Right in the centre of town and importantly for me next to a beach I could swim in.

The place was tired-looking but it was warm, clean with a comfy bed.

Plus points, in a great location and the staff we did meet were lovely. No parking but there is free street parking nearby. Negative points, the rooms / hotel in serious need of updating and redecoration which the hotel is under going at present although theres a sense it has been o going for sometime. Tiny TV which you may need to turn on to drown out the sounds (every sound!) from the room next door. No restaurant or bar, although you can use the sister hotel, The Grand (optimistic title), which is only a 3 minute walk. Slight musty smell that permeates everywhere. No need to bring an alarm clock as the friendly seagulls tap on the window with their beak very early in the morning.

Whilst the Queens is currently undergoing refurbishment there are some disruptions, however the staff & in particular the GM try to do their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible

It was very clean, extra tea and coffee available for my room. The staff were exceptionally helpful. I got lost getting there from the airport and the Manager even came to find me and carry my luggage. The staff couldn’t do enough for me. The breakfast was also amazing and they catered for a gluten free vegetarian very well. I’d definitely stay again.

There were no staff at the reception. There was a list to call for someone. That said, when the staff member Harvey did arrive, he was very kind and accommodating.

Wonderful location in a historic building on the harbour, nicely-sized rooms and the owner mentioned that they are planning a refurb and modernisation in the coming months so it should be even better.

We arrived out of season so there was never anyone on the front desk, had to help workers who did not have UK phones get in touch to check in and out.
