"Worst Hotel Experience Ever"

2.0

Truly awful, worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Paid £180 for a smelly, damp and dated room.windows painted shut, yellowed bed linen, no attempt at any kind of hospitality or comfort. No breakfast, no staff, no bar. Such a terrible thing to do to a beautiful, iconic building in Lerwick. Ashamed that travellers to Shetland/ Scotland would have to experience this. The owners are obviously overwhelmed with their workload and struggling to find staff, but I can't have sympathy after spending hard earned money to stay in somewhere that, quite simply should not be allowed to open in this condition. Shetland Island Council should surely be made aware of this awful place.

"Only good for contractor workers. Not a place to holiday too."

The shower was brilliant. Great view of the harbour.

Dated and very tired decor. No restaurant or bar.

"Don't bother, sleep on the beach"

2.0

I booked two rooms for two nights at the Queen’s Hotel in Shetland, paying a premium rate and expecting a comfortable stay. Unfortunately, my experience fell short in several key areas. On arrival, there were no staff on duty, and we waited around 20 minutes before being checked in. The overnight desk staff were also unhelpful. The most serious issue was that all my belongings — including clothes, toiletries, and medication — were removed from my room without explanation. When I reported this, the night porter could not locate them and called someone who promised to ring back, but never did. As I had an early flight the next morning, I was forced to travel for 14 hours without being able to wash properly. It took two weeks before some of my belongings were returned, and there was no proactive follow-up from the hotel. The building itself is in poor condition, with peeling wallpaper, cracks in the walls, and signs of general disrepair. Rooms are tired with little to no facilities. During my stay, the restaurant was closed for major renovations — something I was not informed about when booking. Overall, the lack of communication, the handling of my personal belongings, and the condition of the hotel did not reflect the premium price paid. I hope management addresses these issues for future guests.

"Most awful accommodation ever stayed in!"

2.0

Avoid this excuse of a 'hotel' at all costs! We love Shetland and have stayed in some lovely accommodations however had to book a night in The Queens. Nobody on reception, 3 numbers to phone to wait for someone to come and check you in. Manager turns up on the defensive. Hotel stinking of mould and damp. Room cost £179 and no breakfast or bar. Windows painted shut, shabby, tired, worn furniture and carpets. Dirty off white bed linen and a single mattress like a box of spanners! Bathroom obviously hadnt been turned round as empty toilet roll still on holder. Still covid notices up, almost empty bottle of Carex on sink- no local toiletries. Got locked out our room as not given correct key and told it must have been our fault! Completely ruined our last night on lovely Shetand. Hotel is not in a fit state to be open and owners need some training on hospitality.

Location. View. Friendly welcome and assistance. Characterful.

It is not a case of "didn't like". This is an unfinished gem. The story of Queen's Hotel is long and continuing and we appreciate that this is a work in progress. It would have been nice to have been able to use the restaurant (the other options in the town are either booked out or of indifferent quality) and bar. The place has character and charm. We would love to return to see a finished Queen's Hotel.

"Hadde ikke valgt hotellet på nytt."

Sentralt

Bodde der i 5 netter, ble ikke vasket mens vi bodde der. Måtte spørre etter nye håndklær og toalettpapir. Når vi fikk nye håndklær tok de ikke med de gamle.

"A quaint hotel, with great views over the water to Bressay, which is spoiled by staff shortages."

4.0

Hotel is suffering, (like many other local hotels and restaurants ) a long-term staffing shortage, so due to the hotel being in-able to employ a chef/ restaurant team, the restaurant was closed and no breakfast was available. This is not mentioned when you book.

Most local restaurants stop serving food in early evening, even in tourist season.
