"Very good"

8.0

Location close to town. Bed comfortable. Great view from room across water to Bressay. Hotel definitely a bit tatty but everything worked and made it feel quaint which I liked.

No in house bar or restaurant although being so close to town didn't really detract from our stay as plenty of places to eat nearby. Thought it was a bit pricey but we did book late.

"Memorable."

6.0

Excellent at the Grand Hotel as restaurant in the Queens hotel was closed. I did appreciate the manager offering me my breakfast at the Grand Hotel and the staff there. The special extra help that the receptionist gave me to make my stay comfortable and memorable.

Such a small space in the bedroom and only one wall socket. The shower in the bath was difficult for me to get into and out of. The shower screen was fixed. But the receptionist did supply a non slip mat for me and extra towels so that I didn’t slip and hurt myself.

"You'd be better off at Fawlty Towers"

3.0

Rooms was reasonably clean and beds ok comfort wise

The hotel owners are very much 'sweating the asset' it is in dire need of modernisation and half of it including the restaurant and bar need modernising.

"Disappointing"

4.0

It's in a good place.

There is no reception. The manager's phone number is posted on the counter but it is unreachable. When I found it I sat downstairs for 2 hours before they found me a room even though I booked and paid in January. Finally! If there is a bathtub I thought I would take a nice bath after the 3000 km journey. Then I couldn't turn off the hot water because the tap was broken. The manager was also unreachable. The hot water was pouring out and the room was filled with steam. Hours later I was able to get the cleaning lady who was able to turn off the tap professionally. I waited for about 2 hours for the miracle instead of walking around the area. This torture made me very tired. At night I woke up to find 2 large towels wrapped around me. They could have been under the covers somewhere. In the morning I washed my hair and the hair dryer on the ball bearing said the boring thing. This accommodation is a nightmare and I paid 150 pounds for it. Whatever happens the room price is not refundable.

"History and location 👍"

6.0

If you're after the Ritz don't bother. If you're after a comfortable night (yes the beds and linen could do with an update), love history - (don't forget how old this place is the upkeep of the building would not come cheap), the view across the water and bonus of watching the ladies braving the chill waters on Bains Beach early morning, then give this place a go. Close on street parking. The proximity to Lerwick, the Loderries (yes fans . Jimmy Perez house was right there!) are a plus. Our windows worked fine, the bathroom was clean. The staff whilst not always visible, were there if you needed them. I hope Harvey you can one day get this old hotel up and running as it once was. Would I stay here again? Absolutely! Just for the atmosphere alone, I would rather this than a B and B anyday, it was part of a fantastic and memorable experience of Shetland.

Fantastic location with a brilliant view. 😊

There was no soap or tissues in the room. The bathroom itself is tired and in need of a spruce up.

"Excellent views in the very heart of Lerwick, if slightly pricey."

7.0

Location and views from the room were excellent - also general comfort of the room was great, and a bath instead of a shower was a nice bonus. Very clean and warm.

The hotel is under renovation which means the reception works only at certain hours and the bar & restaurant is not available - not that much of a problem, but seems a bit pricey considering the ongoing refurbishment.
