La Meridiana

This hotel is in a great location, bus station easy walk but buses get very full. Short walk to port for ferries and can get the lift back up. Train station not far and straightforward for Pompeii etc. Hotel itself is very clean and breakfast was ok. Same every day. Evening meal was awful though, you choose what you want each morning at breakfast. Nothing cooked fresh. All freezer food and cheap. The worst bit though was the staff, found them really unfriendly except for one woman who ran the bar. The waiters would literally watch you in the restaurant and made us feel really uncomfortable. My daughter had soup (tinned) and it tasted horrible. The waiter came over, lent right over her and said “too much or don’t you like it?” Checked out and the man took the room card and didn’t even say bye or thanks he just ignored me. Bar shuts at 10.30 which is far too early if you’ve been out but great views. Wouldn’t go back, would rather spend slightly more and stay somewhere nice.

Perfect place

Lovely, clean hotel situated in a great spot for getting around! Sorrento town centre is a 10 min walk so you can enjoy the beautiful town at ease and the train station is only a short distance away too. We were warmly welcomed by the reception staff, check-in is at 4pm which is a little bit longer than usual but you can head up to the sun terrace to get drinks and relax which is nice after a long day of travelling. Our room was nice with a nice big window to look out, and it was peaceful at night which is always a plus. My only problem was the restaurant area. My daughter has a nut allergy, one of the most common allergies. We were delighted to see that the dinner menus you get given have ‘Contain’ and ‘May contain’ labelled by each dish. My daughter got the ice cream as it stated ‘May contain’ and she received Pistachio ice cream. Which is a BIG no no. We were informed that the chef does different ice cream flavours each night but the flavour that he is doing that night should be made more clear and stated on the menu. Breakfast was unfortunately the same. There are labels that state which are ‘Contain’ and ‘May contain’ on the pastries/cakes but they are mixed together. Cakes containing nuts next to cakes not containing nuts! The food was nice but it was let down by the carelessness and left my daughter to go hungry.

Excellent location

Room was large and air conditioning worked great . No pool but a nice rooftop terrace. Convenient location to train station and to town .

We had the best time at this hotel! It is in the perfect location. We booked this holiday through TUI and I cannot recommend it enough. It is in the perfect location! It is very close to the train station and bus station (they’re right next to each other) so you are easily able to get to Pompeii (via train) or Amalfi/ Positano (via bus). Then it is also right next to the town and the port ( just a short walk away) . The staff are so friendly and helpful. We stayed for half board. The breakfast has so many options! There’s fresh fruit, cereal, a wide selection of delicious pastries, pancakes, cooked breakfast (egg, bacon, sausages) and toast! So so delicious!!!! Then the meal is a three course! You get to experience a wide range of Italian cuisine that you might not experience otherwise. The food is so delicious. You get to choose what you want for dinner at breakfast. We especially loved their tiramisu! Thank you for such a wonderful stay!!!

The hotel was great staff where really helpful and was really close to everything we wanted to get to

We, a family, booked a holiday through TUI in Sorrento. We chose La Meridiana as it was affordable, close to Sorrento centre, but also looked very clean and suited our needs as a staging post. Well, it exceeded our expectations. I started learning Italian a couple of months before the trip, which helped a lot. Although many of the locals can speak English to a good degree, they do appreciate the attempts. Staff: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff were great, and I made a couple of friends of them whilst trying to practice my Italian. I have to give special attention to Isodoro, who taught me some more, and to another who's name I did not get, but I referred to as 'Mio Amico'. Their sense of humour made my holiday. 'Mio amico' was fun and gave me lot of Dolce after evening meal. To Isodoro and 'Mon amico', "è stato un piacere, e spero di rivederti presto". Hotel: Although only a 3*, I think this is a little low. The hotel was clean, to the point of spotless. The cleaning ladies work very hard. The rooms have air conditioning, which was a godsend when it's 35 degs outside. As for location, La Meridiana is well situated within close proximity to the town. There is also a small 'lemon' shop opposite, where they sell lots of Limocello and other 'cello' drinks. And you can also make your own lemonade. There is also a lemon and orange grove right next to the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to any of my family. However, if you want a pool, look elsewhere. Food: We stayed on a half board booking. Breakfast: If you want an English style fry up, then stay in England. They have a close attempt, but not so good. However, the omelette is good. I went for the cheese and meats, and then the cakes and croisants. My lads also did the same. The pistacio croissants and the fruit tarts.... amazing. How I didn't leave there 2 stone heavier, I do not know. Dinner: Dinner was sometimes hit or miss. At breakfast you get given a menu and you choose what you'd like. The food varied from good to great. Sometimes I'd look at another table and get food envy. I'm not a lover of pasta, but the spaghetti carbobara was just the best I'd ever tasted. The lemon cake.... amazing. I could go on. All I can say from myself and my family, thank you La Meridiana for making our stay a fantastic one. And one day we hope to see you again. And hopefully my Italian will be a lot better.

Nice, clean hotel and well worthy of its 3 star rating. We stayed half board for 1 week late July/early August and had a lovely stay here. Yes, the food leaves a little to be desired in terms of quality, it is perfectly edible although for some reason the veg is cold at evening meal times? Breakfast was basic but adequate. Overall, we enjoyed our stay apart from one issue…..the air conditioning! If there were settings which you could control, the default setting at best was as good as an asthmatic ant carrying a bag of heavy shopping! Seriously, the system lacked any puff and needs to be changed to allow a fan speed of at least ‘medium’ if not ‘high’ during excessively warm days. I appreciate that our room got the sun from early afternoon until sunset and yes there was a metal shutter to keep out the heat but this didn’t really help so, even more important to be able to control/set the fan speed to high when required. All in all, we would return if we were guaranteed that the air conditioning was improved.
