" Dissatisfied "

6.0

Staff are friendly and helpful but the room was shabby. No remote to watch TV. Bathroom very old and the shower was lousy. Toilet lacked cleaning brush! The breakfast was limited. No bacon, sausages, cheese, ham and fruit selection poor seeing as the coast normally has plenty. The bread was stale and the coffee was over brewed. The bar was run down. Generally a experience. Won’t be a return guest.

I echo many of the other reviews in that the hotel is quite old and it doesn't appear as if the owners/management are very keen to update it and keep it fresh. The staff were friendly, but not highly attentive. I had to call and ask at the desk 3 times to get an iron and twice for a hairdryer. The pool closes at 6pm, which is too early if you ask me, and the staff are eager for you to leave the pool area right at 6pm. However, it is supposed to open at 6am and when you get there at 9am you are told the pool is closed for cleaning. While the other pool was open and it was fine, I don't think we should be shooed away during opening hours. And then, you have to wait an hour to get pool towels and find the chair cushions yourself as no one is there to assist. 9am may seem early for pool time, but not for a family with young kids and in the Mombasa heat. They could do more to be accommodating to this. I was very unimpressed with the food. The buffet had one seafood dish which was of poor quality, despite being next to the sea. The food was very bland and unappealing. There was a lack of variety from one evening to the next.

The property is large with very good facilities, areas for relaxation, beautiful lawns and restaurants. The food was great and the chef and his team were very nice and friendly. The room I stayed in had a very old and stained fixtures in the bathroom that were discolored and unpleasant to use. Our bathroom couldn't stop smelling.

Poor services, poor house keeping, also lack of lock on the doors inside the room. An cleaner opened and came in our room while we were asleep... and cleanliness. Service in the restaurant was very bad.

Sadly, we chose the room by reading and comparing the fine details. There were three rooms offered that sounded very much the same but in the details one had some stuff free in the mini bar. Knowing that drinks and water can be expensive we chose to pay the few extra dollars for the room with free stuff in its mini bar. The hotel would not honor that. They said the drinks in the mini bar are never included. At check out we spoke with a manager in his office and he said it was wrong but took our email address and said someone would be in contact. That was over a week ago and we still haven’t heard anything. Expedia and this hotel need to fix this. I am unhappy about it.

"Nothing but wordlessly happy! Keep it up!!"

Our vacation has been so memorable and pleasant. We had a Deluxe room 732 facing the swimming pool and the ocean, view was amazing. In our five days stay, the staff were like family to us, very courteous and eager to serve. Specially some stand out for us. The house keeper was artistic, putting the kids toys in funny, thoughtful and different ways on the bed every day. The person who got us the coconut fruit out of his way, Vivian at the reception, the restaurant manageress, the man cleaning the swimming pool spotless, Benjamin at the Sails Restaurant (with a contagious smile) and Mariam, what can we say about them, except thank you and Keep it up. Mariam is extremely dedicated and made the difference for our kids stay at Nyali. The food was amazing. Every night was a surprise. To the extent that I wished they would repeat some of the desserts J. Fish dish was excellent, and the dessert was superb, with savory and fruit combination. The spa services were classic. I had the reflex massage, it was relaxing and revitalizing. Absolutely worth it. The one thing I would like to tell the Nyali Sun Africa management is to proactively provide information on the activities available in the hotel. For eg. we were not informed of the glass boat that you can rent out to sail to the marine areas. We wanted to take the boat on our last day but we couldn’t because of the tide. We felt we missed out on that. Overall, we only have good memories from our stay, and we look forward to comeback.
