Medplaya Hotel Pez Espada

We are here now and I can say we are extremely happy with this hotel. There are a couple of things that let it down though, which I will mention. The hotel is very clean everywhere - apart from the brass handrail on the curved stairwell down to the restaurant which looks like it's not regularly cleaned due to the amount of smudges and fingerprints on it. I need to hold a handrail on stairs due to mobility issues and this makes me feel icky, I have to clean my hands after touching each time, not great when it's the access to the restaurant. This has let the hotel down but it is the only area really, everywhere else is immaculate, it's probably just an oversight. The room we have is lovely. It is only a standard room and is very good. The bed is humongous! It is so comfortable, cant fault it. The room is a good size, plenty of space for the two of us, nice decor, fair size balcony, side sea view - and we're only on a low floor. Unfortunately we are directly beside the cleaners closet so in the mornings we are woken every morning by them getting their trolleys out and talking which is rather annoying so don't go for a room starting 01 - try to get the far end of the corridor so you have less people disturbing you. The pool and pool area are lovely, apart from the selfish patrons who hog all the sunbeds by the pool by putting their towels down and going off for hours. We counted over 10 sunbeds saved with towels today and the first family arrived after about half hour but the next three didn't turn up for over an hour and the other two still haven't arrived. We spoke to the pool guy about it but he wasn't interested at all. The other thing about the pool area is the smoking. I was so happy to book this hotel as it states it is a non-smoking hotel but apparently that does not apply to the pool area or balconies because we kept having to move away from smokers beside us at the pool who were polluting us with their smoke. I know this doesn't necessarily mean it's the hotel's fault that selfish patrons put their towels down to reserve sunbeds for hours, or smokers being inconsiderate with their smoke, but it really badly affects the enjoyment and satisfaction of the hotel when the hotel management fails to uphold or address these issues. The food is good, not exceptional, but definitely nothing to complain about. Staff work tirelessly to clean and replenish regularly. There is plenty to choose from. I would've liked to have seen more allergen information, but I don't have allergies so it didn't directly affect me. I do prefer gluten free though and I didn't see any specific GF items, I just didn't have anything that I thought might have gluten in it but that limited my choices. The hotel location is excellent- right on the beach, a short distance from both Benalmadena and also Torremolinos so you can get to either area by walking, on a flat surface. It can be a bit of a trek if you have mobility issues though, but you can hire a mobility scooter nearby. Otherwise the hotel is very clean and staff are friendly. I would definitely come again I do recommend it. If the management addressed the sunbed-saving by getting the lifeguard to remove any towels after 30 mins if no one is using them (like we have had in other hotels) and had a designated smoking area so as not to disturb non-smoking guests it would be a five star.

Artig at det var et gammel hotell med lang historie som er renovert. Svært god frokost og flott at det ligger rett ved stranden Fint at det ikke er show på hotellet om kvelden. Det er en stille og rolig plass
