Le Bellevue

Having looked at the reviews for somewhere to stay overnight after our ferry crossing before travelling to the Loire we settled on La Bellevue, based on the reviews on here. We agree with many of the reviews - it was clean, reasonable and the family room was plenty big enough for the three of us. It is not luxurious but is the perfect place to stay over for the night. The breakfast delivered to your room in the morning at a time you specify, was great. If you have any spare time whilst you are in Caen I can highly recommend a visit to the nearby town of Bayeux. It is a lovely typically French town and of course is home to the famous tapestry which is very much worth a visit.

I posted a review in August 2011, having used this hotel twice before, and for the third time in as many years we used it again as an overnight stop before our journey down through France. Basically, my review would be the same as 12 months ago - convenient, reasonably prices, certainly not luxurious but comfortable and the family room was ideal for us. We didn't use the small kitchenette and I can't imagine that these would be often used, and the bathroom and shower are cramped but perfectly usable. The optional breakfast (6.50 euros) was good value and delicious and the Manager (Proprietor?) was helpful.

We were under the impression that the town and this hotel were sub-standard. This was not the case. While the parking was tight, we had no problem getting a parking spot. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The manager was helpful and friendly. The surrounding area is not cute or picturesque, but its clean, safe and has places to eat and local shops--including a super market and a gas station nearby.

Nice place, clean, friendly staff. On the bus routes, and has a grocery store across the street. Just a note that if you don't have a car, its a little out of the way. Would I stay again? yes.

We had a family room; this was supplied with a kitchenette, including fridge, microwave and gas burners - avoided the need for finding a meal out with two tired small children!

We stayed here a few nights as a jumping off place to visit the D-Day area and beaches. The apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable. Unexpectedly it included a well equipped kitchen. It was conveniently located to stores, restaurants and highways in a nice nieghborhood. The front desk was very helpful. Breakfast was delivered to our room every morning as there is not a common area. You are able to order what you would like to drink and select the time of delivery. There was also a private parking lot with free parking.

Stayed overnight after crossing to Caen from Portsmouth, 5 adults, 3 children & a baby. The three rooms were all different and quite far apart as this place is a bit labyrinthine, but all were clean & comfy. Bathrooms all tiny but functional, all had little kitchenettes & there is a supermarket opposite if you wished to self cater. Breakfast delivered in room - standard continental fare 7euros. No good if you can't do stairs unless you request ground floor room but ideal as a stopover. Would stay again.

We stayed in the studio apartment on the second floor. It was clean and had excellent kitchen facilities,the kitchenette even had a door so that the cooking smell stayed mainly in the kitchen.There is no lift so we had to carry our bags up 2 flights of narrow stairs. There is ample off street parking and the staff were very helpful. It is a good base for touring Bayeux and the Invasion Beaches.

It was a very nice stay. The breakfast and service were excellent. The owner was kind and helpful. Nearby is a grocery store, some sights, laundry and an ATM. We were staying as a family of 5 and had a partial kitchen in a spacious apt. tastefully decorated. Breakfast was brought up to the room and served at a time scheduled with the front desk. The neighborhood was safe, convenient to the city with still being in a residential type area.

So disappointed when I saw the inside of the hotel. It was late and we had just driven from Cherbourg. I had booked it online because of the reviews I had read. Rated no.8 of @ 50 hotels in Caen I really would hate to have stayed in the hotel rated no.48!!! The room was clean but was so outdated. It was certainly the worst place I have ever stayed.
