"good 3star, good food, tunnel thermal bath access"

6.0

We spent there 3 nights. Only this hotel has a tunnel to the thermal bath, you get a bathrobe on the room and can walk to the bath. There was also some bargain pricing on that week, it included entry to the bath. The bathroom is rather tiny, the toilet is in it’s own separate room. Both seem like recently refurbished. The room itself looks as recently renovated/refurbished less the carpets. They should have really thrown the carpet out too, it was very spotty. Our room faced the garden, not that the main road would be loud. The main double bed is very soft, either you like that or you don’t get a good sleep. The extrabed for kids, which is a couch unfolded is better, just too short. wifi works (web browsing only), but reception is not tops at the end of the corridor. Breakfast, dinner: both in buffet style. Quite wide range of selection, well done for a 3 star. Common rooms seem also be renovated recently, just the floor is the ancient pink marmor. Kids eye view (4 years): There is a big playroom downstairs with some toys. Evenings kids come together there.

"Old building, unfriendly staff"

2.0

The hotel is old, and the rooms had to be renevated a couple of years ago. Bed was so unfoncortable, that i could not sleep. Carpet was dirty and without colour where people walks. Staff was unfriendly and unprofessional. It took 1 hour the check out, becous i wanted to pay with credit card and SZEP card as well. Only advantages is the coverd coordir to the spa.

"Hotel Freya - Good value for money."

10.0

We stayed at this hotel three nights and it was great. The room was clean and comfortable. The furnitures are new but carpet it's worn. Friendly and helpful service. The breakfast and dinner were very good. Free WIFI in the room. Free bathrobe use for adults. Price including daily entry to the Gránit Medical bath. The Hotel Freya is the only hotel in Zalakaros which is connected through a passage to the Gránit Medicinal Spa!

"Good hotel with exclusive access to the thermal baths"

8.0

I stayed with my family at the Hunguest Hotel Freya because the Tihany Symposium 2011 (a scientific conference) on which my wife would take part of was held there. Our room was very spacious and the beds comfortable; we just didn't remember that European buildings are normally projected to keep the heat from escaping (contrary to Brazilian buildings), and thus when we opened the windows in a summer day the room got very hot. As they say, live and learn! Because we were there for the symposium, we've got full board and we have no regrets. The food was excellent, and the desserts were to die for. Besides, we felt that the ingredients were all from the region, something that added a definitive distinguished taste to the dishes. However, the lunch and dinner times are somewhat strict: for example, dinners end by 9:00 PM and we've discovered that it's really hard to find a place to eat later than this in Zalakaros, even in the summer. The hotel has a very convenient access to the Thermal Bath (Gránit Gyógyfürdő) where you use an underground tunnel to get to its lobby; the tickets can be bought at the reception desk. Wifi is available free of charge and has a reasonable speed, for a city with 1000 inhabitants; the only problem I've got was that VoIP access was blocked, and during our stay I couldn't get around this. Check with your VoIP provider if there is an alternative port for VoIP communication (mine had it, but I've found it too late). Staff was generally friendly and welcoming, and it was very patient with our children which were 3 and 4 at the time. However, it's always good to learn some words and phrases in German, since one time we've a got a reception clerk which only spoke German and Hungarian - just at the time when we needed someone to point us a restaurant for our son... In general, was a very pleasant stay, and we long to come back there in the future - perhaps in the next Tihany Symposium.
