The furniture and room were very old even though its $90 some dollars per night. Diffenetly not recommended. But the Staff and Front people were very very nice.

The 250 dollars guarantee - that is ludicrous. We got it back, it's ok. Also, you don't have a parking place.

Great value hotel with its own bathroom ( be aware, most hotels in this region in san fransisco only provide a shared bathroom). The room was great, amazing large comfy bed and fridge with good shower and towels and a great tv service. The hotel is centrally located, a few steps from theatre land and some great places for breakfast.

You won't find cheaper place in the downtown! The staff was super nice and they stored my bag after check-out.

It's hard to be critical as the price probably explains all the cons of this place. The area is full with hallucinating and aggressive homeless people. I recommend taking a cab instead of walking. The room furniture is not the newest, bed sheets included. I don't mind having old sink but I'd appreciate linen that's not torn or with unremovable stains.

I found the Layne Hotel an exellent place to stay while your in San Fransisco. It so close to Union Square and all the local transport. The hotel is clean of a very high standard and the hotel manager Randy is ever so helpful if theres anything you need to know. I cant praise this gem of a hotel enough!! If i ever go to San Fransisco again (and i hope i do) i will know exactly where to stay !!

Nice very clean and well-maintained vintage hotel. Dining options nearby. I'd asked for a local map, w/transit lines. They'd had none. I'd had to go to another hotel where I'd received two great maps. Close to trans and Union Square.

As with most of San Fran / that area, the homeless people around the hotel was eye opening. However they keep to themselves and it is safe. Randy made sure to let me know of areas to avoid as well which was appreciated.

I felt very much at home in this family run hotel in an old SF house. The staff was super nice and I had everything I needed for my 8 nights stay. Nothing the owners can do about what's going on in central SF, and the Tenderloin district in particular. And the old house comes with its quirks. But for that price, and with the friendly staff, I was more than happy with my choice and wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Very comfortable room - the two queen beds were great! Great to have a small fridge with freezer and a microwave. No air conditioner but able to open the windows for fresh air (has screens in the bedrrom windows). The staff are very friendly and helpful. Felt very safe inside the hotel - 24/7 reception and a gated locked front hotel door. Wasn't bothered by the homeless in the area. Good info in reviews about staying away from wandering into the Tenderloin area - safe to walk down Geary towards Powell and then head to Market street.

Unfortunately no coffee machine but I saw previous posts so brought my own coffee cup and Starbucks Vina instant coffee! There was a fellow outside the hotel hollering frequently during the night for a number of nights - but the hotel owner did find a way to contact someone and this seemed to put a stop to it!
