Historic Hotel Steinbock

Room was neat and tidy, Breakfast was lovely. Location was great- short walk to station. We had a room facing the church and bells rang every 15 minutes 24/7- wasn't as bad as we expected.

Not a criticism but staff always seem too busy to offer any assistance. It's not a hotel where you can get information or advice without feeling you are taking staff away from their tasks. As a small historic Hotel they could also tell a great story about the hotel's history but there was no information we saw.

Convenient to the stations

There was no person at the time of check in.And there are lots of rules and conditions even for a late check in.

One of the biggest advantages of this hotel is its excellent breakfast and its convenient location in a village situated between Interlaken ost and Lauterbrunnen. Upon our arrival, the hotel owner provided us with a guest card that allowed us to use public transportation, including trains and buses, free of charge to Interlaken and the surrounding areas(bis interlavken ...) (with the exception of Lauterbrunnen). This helped us save a considerable amount on transportation costs during our stay.

Unfortunately, this hotel had several negative aspects. First of all, before check-in, we were required to pay a 100 CHF security deposit online. This requirement was neither mentioned on the Booking.com listing nor included in the hotel's stated policies. However, the owner insisted that this information had been sent to us in advance, which was not true. The owner explained that the deposit would be refunded after check-out once they had verified that no damage had been caused to the property. To their credit, this is exactly what happened, and the money was returned to my account in less than six hours after we left the hotel. Even so, being unexpectedly asked to pay an undisclosed security deposit before arrival created a negative first impression that had an unfortunate impact on my overall experience. Another drawback of this hotel is that there is practically no staff available in the afternoons to assist guests. During my stay, I found that the electrical outlets were so narrow that my standard mobile phone charger would not fit into any of them. When I called the hotel's contact number for help, I was told that nothing could be done at that time and that I should ask the staff the next day. When I spoke to the staff the following morning, they only had three adapters available, all of which were identical and incompatible with my charger. As a result, they were unable to provide any solution that would allow me to charge my phone, which caused me considerable inconvenience. Another inconvenience was that there were no electrical outlets in the bathroom or toilet. This meant that if you wanted to dry your hair with a hairdryer, you had to leave the bathroom and use it elsewhere. In addition, there was no mirror near any of the available power outlets, so you had to style and dry your hair without being able to see what you were doing, which was quite impractical. Additionally, our room did not face the river.
