"Great Hotel with amazing views"

10.0

It'd be hard to find anything negative to say about The Hotel Portocobo, so I won't. I recently stayed there for 5 days, and paid extra for a room with a sea view. Located in a lovely bay overlooking The Historic Santa Cruz castle the views are simply spectacular, so make sure to book a sea view. The location is excellent, with a beach right outside, and a promenade with several bars and restaurants just 5 minutes walk away. There's also several supermarkets within easy walking distance as well as plenty of bars, restaurants, and cafes. The hotel itself is lovely and quite modern. The rooms feature a good amount of wardrobe space, good air conditioning, a miny refrigerator, hair dryer, and a safe for personal valuables/cash/passports. The bed was comfortable and extra pillows and blankets were readily available in the wardrobe. The house-keeping staff did an excellent job keep the room clean. The hotel staff were all friendly and accommodating, although most spoke little if any english. This wasn't often a problem though, and as long as you're willing to try a little bit and maybe learn one or two spanish words you'll always get what you want.

"Great location, room for improvement"

6.0

Reception staff very helpful. Rooms without sea views are fairly uninspiring and I wouldn't recommend them unless you are staying for work reasons. We were not advised that there would be no access to the outdoor area at the bottom of the hotel after I booked. There is a gate from this area that leads to the beach but this was padlocked. Breakfast was OK - similar to the business breakfasts you get in city hotels. Overall the hotel has great potential but lacks a few touches/details that would make it an excellent hotel.

"Amazing views, nice hotel"

8.0

We stayed here as a couple in a big group of friends. We had a suite on the 3rd floor which was very reasonable and had an amazing terrace, huge with fab views - well worth it in my opinion, we bought breakfast and cava from the local shops and sat on our terrace eating and drinking a lot - lovely. The rest of the hotel was fairly good, nice location but Snata Cruz is small and english is limited (which is nice but be aware). The only negatives were the mattress which was rock solid and the shower, it had a rainforest shower head but it wasn't plumbed in so whilst the bathroom looked great it wasn't perfect. All in all a good hotel, good service, lovely views and fairly cheap - would definitely stay again!

"Could have been perfect.."

8.0

Staff was wonderful though not prepared for large group of ebullient Irish family celebrating a wedding. The food was good and the setting is wonderful. We may have been their first destination wedding in this stunning setting. They are well equipped to improve. Be prepared to practice your Spanish. This is very much a "locals" spot. Galicia is beautiful!!

"Amazing views"

6.0

Fairly good hotel, absolutely stunning views from ACoruna, the venue for events is a plus with a glass wall that faces the bay giving an extra touch. The room is quite standard and breakfast as well, don't agree the hotel being rated 4stars, it's a good 3stars hotel with amazing views. Would definitely stay again.

"Super hotel, great value, super location in a quiet little but upmarket village"

10.0

Yep, this is a very good value for money hotel Easy to find using GPS, great position with what seems like a private beach ( it's not) and the island of Santa Cruz. Do take a stroll, it was turned into a small fortress after Walter Raleigh attacked A Coruna. Again helpful staff, we asked for a room with a shower, no trouble, all sorted out. Very good breakfast, ask for eggs any which way, just get there by 09.30 Plenty of parking on hotel grounds and it's free. Free wifi which works really well for a hotel, upload and down load speeds of 8.62 and 7.92. Room is large and so is the bathroom, decor is a bit dated and the furniture somewhat basic. There is a safe and a mini fridge, free bottled water. Santa Cruz is about a 15 min drive from A Coruna. The village has a large supermarket and a bit further out a much bigger hyper market. The village has little to offer by way of restaurants, so if you don't have transport you will be limited in your choices. If you drive around, you will find some pretty interesting residential houses nearby, we were told that the owner of the Zara clothing company lives in Santa Cruz. Yes, recommend the hotel.

"Worth it to stay!"

8.0

Nice location very friendly staff and they will make sure they help you with your needs. For the price of the hotel you get a lot out of it. Only thing be careful on the bath tub as it is very slippery I felt and hurt my self pretty badly. Otherwise I recommended and for sure will go back again!

Arrived expecting a room with sea views but because of work at the hotel this was not possible. The staff were very apologetic and we had a refund of money and free breakfasts during our stay. They also gave us complimentry wine with our evening meal. A vary enjoyable stay.
