The McWilliam Park Hotel Mayo

Our experience was great as always. Delicious food and friendly prompt service. Our waitress Nell was spectacular.

Despite asking for, and getting confirmation from the hotel for, a quiet room with a view, I was put in a room looking at a wall. This room was only one room away from the main lobby and I had to listen to life music from the bar all evening and laughing and yelling guests in the early hours. I complained about the location of the room on arrival but was told that this room was the only one available in the category which I booked. I would have paid extra to be put in a different room but that not a consideration. The sofa in my room was a fold out bed and the most uncomfortable sofa I ever used. The pool area looked good from a distance but had lots of flaking paint hanging from the ceiling. The steam room has cracked and defective tiles all over and a lot of grime in the area of the hot air outlet.

Whilst we were happy enough with our room, we had an issue with some of the bedrooms being renovated on the same corridor as our room. When we were checking in we should have been notified of this work. There should have been notices on the door leading on to our corridor. There was only 2 mugs in our room even though there was 3 of us staying in the room. I asked for an extra mug at reception and got one, no problem at all. I also think that there shouldn't have been an extra charge for half the cooked breakfast dishes. There wasn't anything special about them. On the plus side at least the cooked food was delivered to our table. On one of the mornings there wasn't enough glasses for our orange juice.
