Wifi doesnt work . Room was claustrophobic like a box . Food was not fresh. Never experience so small room with that price.

The bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were not great either. I wrote to them before going there to explain I’m having to follow a gluten and dairy free diet so could they accommodate my dietary restrictions. They wrote back and said yes they could. To put it politely they had no idea what this meant. I will definitely not be staying there again

I liked that the property was very central with walking distance into the main lively area of the town but also that it was close to big supermarkets like Lidl and Asda and very close to the train station. Also, it both had a parking right on site as well as A enterprise car rental service across the road..

I arrived hotel on Friday night in a rush and asked time for breakfast and was clearly told 8-10am however next day at 9.15 when I went for breakfast and sat there 15 min and no one there. A blackboard clearly said breakfast last orders 9.45 sat & Sunday I then went to reception then had to phone to find out last orders were 8.45 and I got a heap of cheek back

Our family group - eight people across four rooms - stayed at The Royal for a total of six nights in connection with my Mum’s funeral, so this was already a very difficult time. My sister-in-law, who booked the rooms for four of us, was quoted at £128, but upon arrival I was charged £88. Given the circumstances and all the other expenses/considerations around the funeral, I was in a daze so it didn’t really register. The next morning upon leaving, I was approached by a staff member to say that, due to a hotel error, I’d been undercharged for the room and asked to pay the additional £40. While I understand that legally, the quoted rate applies, this situation felt awkward and uncomfortable. I should say, however, that the staff member left to handle this clearly also felt uneasy, but dealt with the matter courteously and professionally. In my opinion, it was extremely unfair management had put her in that position, as none of this was her fault. There was also confusion with the room allocation, as on top of this, it appeared we had been put in the wrong room, which added to the overall sense of disorganisation at The Royal. The room itself, although clean, to call it basic is an understatement - incredibly uncomfortable bed with a dip in the centre which we kept rolling into, no pictures on the walls, no bedside lamps, nowhere to hang clothes, and a thin, ill-fitting window blind which may as well not have been there. The room did not come even vaguely close to good value - even if we’d been charged the lower rate of £88. I emailed the manager the next day about our experience and received a generic response from her, thanking me for my feedback and what felt like a very empty apology for the confusion. She then said the outstanding amount was actually £45.40 not £40, but ‘not to be concerned’ about the underpayment of £5.40 and she now ‘considered the matter closed’! To say I was incredulous she’d even mention this, doesn’t begin to cover it. Overall, a disappointing experience that would benefit from better organisation, infinitely better management and more considerate handling of billing issues. If you happen to find yourself in Elgin, looking for an overnight, do yourself a favour and stay ANYWHERE else.
