"Lovely hotel, could improve easily to a 5 star rating with a couple of tweaks"

8.0

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would definitely give it another try. Great time of year to travel as not many kids about! Lots of space around the pool, we never struggled to get a sunbed once. There is a lovely little resort if you head out the gates at the seafront and follow the wooden walkway around to the left. Some lovely little bars and restaurants on the seafront - you wouldn't think so when you just look over that way so I would recommend taking a stroll over there and you'll see what I mean! I enjoyed all the food and drink from the all inclusive - we had a meal at the dolce vita one night and the mussels marinara are the best I've tasted! We had a couple of minor issues with housekeeping during our stay, but hopefully they take note and sort that out. Only other thing is the walls are very thin so you can hear neighbours at times! We just made sure we stayed out late!

"Not worth the money you are paying for"

2.0

The Rooms was not very clean we had jets in the bath was dirty i was looking forward to use them however there was so much dirt that came out as soon as i turned them on, the staff on check in didn’t explain any of the entertainment during the day and night, not everything is including in the all inclusive so if you do go watch out before you book they seem to care a lot more about the royal level guests than anyone else which made us feel a bit left out

"Not 5 Star"

4.0

Visited last year and had a wonderful time, however things have changed in a year. First up staying in the Royal Level, checked in just around 1PM to be told our room would not be ready until 3PM. As our room was on the same level as check in, we went to see where it was. The room was right next to the bar, and with an alleged sea view which was about 500 meters away. We asked to be moved nearer where we were last year which was much nearer to the Royal Level facilities. Whilst waiting for that room in the bar, not one person came to clean and prepare our previous allocated room, bearing in mind this was about 1430 now when we asked to be moved, which seems to point that we were being unneccessarily held until 3PM missing a good chunk of our first day. Location of the new room was much better near to the pools and facilities, however the white towels and dressing gowns were more grey and very well used, as was the room whilst clean was in need of updating. Down at the Royal Level buffet the food was very drab and tasteless, 3 nights on the run Meatballs were served at the buffet as were Boiled Potatoes and we even got to Chicken Nuggets on one night, hardly 5 Star eating. And then as a special treat a full set of entertainment kicked off every evening with outdoor bingo at 5 PM, and later after 930PM a full cacaphony of noise for 2 hours as it seems that last years "turns"were all now outside blasting away, including some bloke singing Tina Turner Hits (Badly). Final night we had a visitor who came into the room under some pretence that he was there to do something with the bed, i was spark out with ear plugs in,drowning out the racket, however my lovely wife advised him off his mistake in no uncertain terms. Definitely not 5 Star. So sorry will not be back.

"Not a hotel for people with walking difficulties"

4.0

THIS HOTEL IS NOT SUITABLE FOR GUESTS WITH WALKING DIFFICULTIES. As 'unique' members of Barcelo we booked 5 nights Royal Level all inclusive. Many of the Royal Level rooms are located close to the main reception end of the complex whereas the Royal Level facilities are located at the other end of the complex, about 200 meters away up and down steps and up and down slopes. Although we were found an alternative room after 2 nights which was much closer to the Royal Level facilities, it was directly above/next to a hotel bin area which was not very nice. We accept that we should have pointed out we had walking difficulties but at 77 and 78 years of age who doesn't. Yes, there was a 'golf cart type buggy' available to transport guests from one the reception end to the Royal Level end but the hotel rules were that only one guest at a time could be moved around this way. For couples this proves to be somewhat a useless service due to the time involved as it meant double the number of trips to get both parties to where they wanted to go. ie For breakfast Buggy to Royal level with 1 guest and back to Reception empty. Buggy to Royal Level with 2nd Guest and back to Reception empty. After breakfast Buggy to breakfast restaurant empty and back to reception with 1 guest then back to restaurant empty and then back to reception with 2nd guest. What nightmare! Also, as 'unique members' we asked for early check in advising the hotel we would probably arrive around midday. In the event it took cleaning staff some 2 hours 30 minutes to make the room ready for us to take occupancy. With a bit of organisation this should have taken a maximum of 1 hour. Not good enough Barcelo! With the exception of Royal Level reception staff who were pretty useless, all the other staff members were fabulous. Bar staff, pool staff, buggy drivers, restaurant staff etc. Normal sunbeds in the Royal Level pool area were short in numbers and guests were laying towels on them from 7.00 am onwards to reserve them. The other sunbeds were best described as big cushiony things which were not suitable for sunbathing, plus the large canopy type sunbeds. If you did manage to get a normal sunbed then these did have comfortable pads on. Sorry Barcelo but we will not be returning to this hotel. We will go back to Playa Blanca or Costa Tequise in Lanzarote for our next holiday.

"Needs improvement in a number of areas"

6.0

Positives: the hotel is really well designed and blends gorgeously into the environment. Our rooms were spacious, with lots of storage, good blackout curtains and were quiet. The variety at breakfast and dinner was good. Negatives: sometimes the food was cold at the dinner buffet. There was a lack of freshness in the vegetable dishes (oftentimes just tinned veg that lacked any flavour), and there should have been more dessert options that catered for dietary requirements. We were disappointed that we were charged for water at dinner, and felt this is something basic that should have been provided for free. You were supposed to book activities and meal reservations via the app. However, our app sign in wasn't working and required 2 days of back and forth liaison with the staff, which we had to take the lead for solving. It meant that we weren't able to partake in certain activities, and twice had a manual booking cancelled with relatively short notice. When we complained to Barcelo management and pointed out that our holiday experience was being negatively effected by having to constantly replan our days (no easy feat when the hotel is quite isolated and public transport was sparse), they completely fobbed us off with a vague assertion that they'd watch out for app issues in the future (how?), and seemed not to care at all about the experience that we'd had. For example, there was no interest in providing any local knowledge to help us replan activities, suggestions for alternatives, prioritising us on a waitlist, or just a small complementary gesture like a free drink. It was clear that they don't really take an interest in the guest experience - what elevates hotels is when they do this. You'll probably have a decent experience at Barcelo Tenerife if all goes well, but if not, then you shouldn't trust that they'll help you resolve any issues.
