No hot water and no power to outlets

This hotel has potential, but staff, poor management and location is squandering all of it. First, the hotel is undergoing a major renovation while at the same time continuing receiving guests. I do not believe this is a good idea, I would rather close the hotel completely and do all remodeling in one shot, like many other hotels do. I know that this may have short term business implications but long term it will certainly work in favor of the property. Because the way things are right now is not working. The web site of the property states that as of now, only the second floor is under renovation. This is not true. The main lobby is closed and front entrance cannot be used. This renders the front parking lot as essentially useless because no guest wants to park in front only to walk around the building - a building with a large footprint - especially when the shorter path around the building is blocked by a fence. No visible signs - at least not visible when it is dark outside - to indicate the closure of the front entrance, so I parked my car in front - while wondering where was everybody - and only after I unloaded my luggage I realized that I have to go around and use the back entrance. When I get to the back entrance, I realized that everybody was there because there was no available parking within a reasonable walking distance. The fact that the parking spaces are quite small and in Michigan most people drive very large vehicles was an added impediment as numerous guests would virtually occupy two parking spots, which compounded the problem. The hotel was actually fully occupied during the week-end I was there due to a skating competition for small children. They do have a makeshift lobby at the back entrance, when I got there and I complained about the parking and poor signage, the front desk staff became defensive and annoyed with what I was saying. They made me sign a page acknowledging the hotel policies, without giving me a copy. Upon me requesting a copy, the level of hostility from the staff increased visibly. Needless to say, no acknowledgement of my IHG status or anything like that - but that was not important to me at that time. Upon receiving the room keys, I discover a few other issues. There were large families with many kids waiting for the only operational elevator in the hotel, due to renovation. The elevator was running very slowly and due to large groups of children, not very efficiently. It took almost 20 minutes to actually find some room in the elevator, along with my family and luggage. When I got to the room, I turned on the heat - the heater is a radiator underneath the main window, and when in operation, it is very noisy and it emanates a burning smell. Not something I was willing to contend with that night. I would be remiss if I did not mention the level of noise on the hallways due to many small children and the guests next to us had a birthday party in the room which was producing a lot of noise. My son was there for a tennis tournament and we were supposed to wake up early the next day, which prompted us to find another hotel and move there. I was also concerned that we may not make it to the tournament on time because of the slow elevator. Upon us notifying the reception of the check-out, no words were spoken trying to mend the situation, only bad attitude. This was perhaps one of the worst experiences I had to go through in a hotel, definitely customer service is not a forte at this franchise. Compounding the fact that the rate was actually quite high for Midland - perhaps due to the full occupancy - this was a very bad experience for us. Thankfully we were able to find a much better alternative close by. Perhaps once the renovations are completed, guest experience will improve. Until then, I suggest avoiding this hotel.

The price would not be a problem if the facilities worked properly. We have been coming there for years and really enjoying a hot tub that is so great! This stay, we literally wanted to enjoy the hot tub because of our schedule down there. It did not work properly. I feel like if there's a problem with something as such, it should be noted or discounted. Otherwise, beautiful renovations and fantastic staff!
