Hotel Amapola Resort

The hotel is very nice, friendly staff and the rooms are OK. check-in time is very favorable (2PM) and the pool and facilities are very good, small gym but good enough for a good excersice break, the kids area is very good. Hotel is safe, it is not located in the middle of the town, so you are away from the noise, 2 KM walking distance to nice restaurants and Jaco downtown, the area is safe for walking. Hotel is not in front of the beach, but the beach is close enough to get there walking, if you are driving or by cab you can go to other very nice beach (Playa Hermosa, around 5 km far) as well.

Recommend place to visit with family, good pool and facilities, the beach is 5 minutes by car and 15 walking.

Mattresses were so uncomfortable... Bed sheets were not so clean because we started with allergy symptoms...

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in

Very nice place. Very humid in Jaco so great air conditioned room & gorgeous pool area.

The room was not that comfortable. the pool is not in a good shape, tiles are missing and it was not that close to the beach. the staff was very kind, but the hotel restaurant was not that clean. overall : not that bad....

It was a small getaway with my son, but we enjoyed it very much although the weather was not much in our favor. The staff was very courteous, the place was very clean, the pool was wonderful and we had a great time

The outdoor areas and pool are what make this place good. it's a little far from the beach and the restaurant there is quite expensive but it's relaxing and good for families.

I kept my expectations pretty low and that worked out well. The Amapola is an older property in need of some renovation in my opinion. Check in was fine, but the A/C in my room was not working. The maintenance crew got that fixed very promptly. Bonus points for that. I would recommend the Amapola for families; but not for singles or couples.

We stayed in 5 hotels in Costa Rica. This was the most expensive one, and the worst by far. Best things about it: the breakfasts were delicious, the pool was filled with (Costa Rican?) families which made it seem very family-friendly. Also, it is within walking distance of the main area of Jaco and some good restaurants. Worst things about it: everything else. Terrible price for what you get. Awful decor! And they ration your towels. We arrived and they saw we had kids (two under 12) and immediately charged us an extra $60 a night. Okay, that's fine if that's your policy but no other hotels charged for under 12 kids staying in the room. So what did we get for that extra money? Breakfast. When I requested towels (there were only two bath towels in the room) I did not get them. The following day I was told that if they gave me the extra towels, I would have to return them or I'd be charged. I was also told that they do NOT HAVE washcloths or hand towels. What?? Has anyone in the history of staying at a hotel ever paid $200 a night at a place without washcloths? So I returned all the pool towels and bath towels the next day, as instructed. But the person behind the counter did not add them up, so I was told later that day that I'd be charged for their towels. I managed to convince the woman that there was no way that I wanted their crummy towels and she did not charge. Also, they have a swim up bar but there was never anyone at it to sell you drinks.
