Great location, nice staff and the free breakfast was great

Not very clean, the trash cans in the hallways weren’t emptied for 4 days and smelled

I have stayed at this hotel several times. My last visit to this hotel was in June 2022. This recent stay in June 2026 was a disaster as far as the hotel goes. We will definitely not be returning. We will find another hotel for our next trip to Virginia Beach. When we arrived at 4:30pm on a Sunday to check into our room, no rooms were available. The attendant at the front desk said that housekeeping was trying to get rooms cleaned. Check in time at the hotel was 4 PM. The lobby was filled with four or five other families also waiting on their room. The front desk tenant took my phone number and told me that she would call me when our room was ready and that it could take an hour. We needed to use the restroom as we had just takien a 10 hour drive to get there. One of the housekeepers at the hotel got us a key that would give us access to the hotel and the restroom near the pool. The restroom was filthy. I have pictures. There was an older couple using the restrooms at that time too. They warned us how bad the bathroom was before we went in and said they also were waiting to get into their room which was not ready at check-in time. It was almost 6 PM and I had not heard anything so I called the front desk. I was placed on hold for about five minutes, and she finally came back on the phone and told me that our room was ready. She apologized that this was not the standard set for their hotel and that the manager had said we would be compensated. When we were finally able to get checked in, not only were we not compensated, but we were charged $60 more than my booking that I made directly through Choice Hotels. I questioned why it was more and the attendant at the front desk said that it was probably a resort fee for the fitness room and parking. I explained that this hotel had never charged me that before. We entered our room and found that the toilet paper holder was broken off the wall. We pulled out the sofa bed for the children to sleep on. The mattress was very old with many stains on it, some appeared to be blood. There were no bed linens for that bed so we had to go to the front desk to get some. We noticed that the hallways were filthy, and there were bags of trash in the hallway outside of our room. In the hallway we met a couple that was staying on our floor and they said they had checked in on Friday and had to wait until after 8 PM to get in their room because the rooms were not clean. They also mentioned bags of trash that they had seen in the hallway on our floor that had been there for days. I emailed the hotel manager(Ana Deskins) that 1st evening of our stay. I did not have a response by the next evening, so I emailed her again. On the third day of our stay, she was at the front desk. I still had not received an email response from her. I asked her if she received my emails and she said she had not checked emails but that she would. She asked what my concerns were and I explained everything to her and told her I had sent her an email with pictures and there was more information in the email. I explained that I was charged a hotel fee that was not shown when I booked the room directly through choice hotels. She said they have charged that extra hotel fee for the last eight years. I told her that I was there four years ago and was not charged a hotel fee. She said she would look at my email and see what she could do. Later that evening I saw her in that at the front desk and I asked her if she did receive the email and she said yes. It is now three days after I ask her and she confirmed that she received the email, and I still have received no response. I have pictures of the mattress and the broken toilet toilet paper holder. Those pictures along with more were in email that I sent her. The room condition was deplorable. I understand that there will be a full renovation of this hotel in the fall, but there’s no way I would return to this hotel. There is a real problem with management and housekeeping.

DO NOT BRING CHILDREN OR FAMILIES HERE if i could rate it zero stars i would. when we first got here we were all kinda cringing at the hallways how filthy and unfinished they were. but we were gonna let it go if the room was decent. but we couldn’t even get up to our room for a long time because the elevators were not working and took us no joke 30 minutes to get up to our room. When i say the halls were nasty they were… online it of course didn’t show this it shows all nice things. The smell and temperature were disturbing 100 degrees in the halls and the smells were ripe. The room itself was not bad, however the AC unit didn’t work and was very stuffy in our room. We had it set to 63 if that says anything and it felt like 73. We were on the 9th floor so it taking 30 minutes to get to the room wasn’t ideal and we all couldn’t take the stairs because my husband has a disability. Let alone the staircase being the MOST filthy one i have ever seen. It’s supposed to be non smoking even on the balcony’s but this was certainly not the case… this isn’t as much on the hotel more on the people but when you know they smell it and choose to let it go that’s when there is a problem. and i would say THE MOST IMPORTANT part to listen too is your family’s safety… do we feel safe here? for us that was a huge no. There were large groups of African American men gathered in the parking garage smoking and doing who knows what. To me this is not okay and how the hotel didn’t say anything is beyond me. We ended up getting a refund for one night thank goodness because this is absurd. don’t bring families here especially if these rates continue not worth a dime.

This is our 3rd year spending our family vacation weekend at this location, all of the staff is helpful and courteous. This trip I have to say Shayla at the front desk and Mrs Carol in laundry bought my aggravation with the rough start to our check in experience to an end. Shayla had a smile and a warm word every time I passed the desk and Mrs Carol is always a breath of fresh air with a friendly wave and a smile when going out to the beach from the beach front entrance. We have already reserved next year’s vacation weekend. My grandchildren live the location and that’s all it takes for me!

Chris Grant made our morning at breakfast he was so friendly and the food was great!Such a good experience and the staff was fantastic!The cleanliness left a lot to be desired and the ice machines didn’t work and the bathrooms were very dirty.This hotel definitely needs upgraded!

The Breakfast Team, specifically Chirs, made our stay at the beach! The first day we went to see what breakfast they had, and Chris was there smiling and singing making delicious food while doing so! He absolutely was the best part of our entire stay at VA beach!
