Hiroshima Grand Intelligent Hotel

The reception area is fascinating considering you are in Japan. It's got surprisingly old world charm which seems to correspond well with an aging yet elegant property- very much at odds with my idea of Japanese stereotypes. The rooms were tiny and need a little renovation, carpets somewhat dinghy, but the service was impeccable due to the polite and respectful Japanese culture. Buffet style breakfast is served in uppermost floor unassuming restaurant, with an astonishing view of the hills around Hiroshima- the same hills and topography which were a factor in choosing Hiroshima as a site to utilize and measure effects of a-bomb. This chilling thought haunted my breakfast and the tears flowed abundantly. Option was given at check-in to buy breakfast cheaper than at restaurant. Breakfast was good but a hybrid of Japanese and American style, possibly not committing to, or perfecting either (this was a common problem for me in Japan). Location excellent though somewhat confusing to get to in the beginning. Make sure you know which exit to utilize from the Hiroshima train station. And make sure you don't to the other Hiroshima Intelligent (but not "grand"). On exiting from appropriate exit, we were still not sure how to get to the hotel-there was,apparently a huge sign above the building itself, across the river- but it was in Japanese (not helpful to us). Interesting and unexpected "Japanese" experience.

Hotel front is under going face lift when we're there. Very close to Hiroshima station. Has European old world charm decor with angles/cherub at top of walls. Lobby and entrance decor has teddy bears, rabbits, knights, very interesting. Hotel staffs are friendly and helpful. Room is large but bathroom needs a bit more attention as sealant around bath is lifting and some mould is forming. Breakfast is served on the top floor with very good view of the district. Good range of both western and Japanese breakfast. There is a washing machine and dryer plus vending machine on the 6th floor, all coin operated. Can get laundry powder from reception.

Close to JR and Shinkansen, tram station. Near to many eateries. Great location to stay for sightseeing - walking distance to Dome and shopping street. The hotel room is dated but with clean sheets and towels, clean air filter, it helps to feel great right away. Definitely a charming 3-star hotel w friendly and staff who converse well in English.

Very dated look but otherwise a very good hotel with comfy beds and good amenities plus friendly staff. Easy access to Hiroshima Station and JR sightseeing buses via underground walkway. Wi-Fi and cabled LAN very reliable and fast.

Not sure what to say about this hotel , it was very neat the Hiroshima train station which was good because we only had a short stay. Short walk via the underpass from the station the hotel almost has an old English type feel to it , small dark foyer and rooms and lots of stripes wall paper. Bed was comfy but not many restaurants nearby but easy access to bus , light rail for touristy stuff. Only 15 mins to peace museum and maybe an hour to the shrine.

This hotel is a 10 minute walk from the JR station which is very convenient but there aren't many restaurants close by except for the ones at the station. The decor is hilarious with Knights in their armour in the foyer and crazy old fashioned chandeliers and a giant teddy bear dressed as a bell boy and Beatrix Potter rabbits and bright flamingos in the garden!!!! The room are fairly clean but the furniture is from the 1940s but not in a good way ha ha! The bed is tiny and so is the room but it's crammed with furniture and the wall paper in crazy, it's like a step back in time!!! Would not rush to stay here cute and crazy but tiny room and cleanliness pretty average.

The location of this hotel is great for travelers. The breakfast was really good, also. The minus about this hotel is the fact that the rooms weren't that clean and also the window in my room didn't close very good and I had to use the heating on the entire week when I stayed there.

Stayed here twice. Very convenient to JR Hiroshima Station where you can catch train, street car or use the hop on hop off bus. Plenty of places to eat nearby. Room is decent size for Japan too.Would definitely stay here again.

Good location close to the station. Fine for a one night stopover.

This is a lovely and well intentioned hotel. The decoration seems a bit older and the furnishings could do with an upgrade however for the price it was good value and for all the antiques there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere. I would not consider this a very high end hotel however it was reasonably convenient by tram to everything and good value.
