Staybridge Suites - Kansas City-Independence by IHG

We always stay at Staybridge durong softball tournaments, they are safe, clean and comfortable! I love the beds, having a built in kitchen and the space to stretch out! Breakfast is always great, and having laundry on site makes dealing with stinky uniforms a breeze!

We had a nice stay in April at a Staybridge Suite in Madison, Wisconsin and we returned for a stay at this location because of our pleasant experience at the Staybridge in Madison, including the size and layout of the one-bedroom suite with a sofa bed in a separate room. We liked the room at the Independence location for those same reasons. For the most part it was quiet.

We were unpleasantly surprised at the lack of selection and lower quality of the breakfast at this location compared to the Staybridge we stayed at in Madison. Inconsistency between locations is a concern for future stays. We found a big stain on one of the pillows, which made us uncomfortable as to the cleanliness of everything else in the room. The hallway rugs were pretty dirty and had litter, which also added to the cleanliness concerns of our room.

This hotel is one of the worst places we’ve stayed in 20 years. Upon check in the male desk clerk was very nice and helpful. However, once we got into our suite, it was obvious the only thing that had been done in it was dirty bedding and towels had been replaced. Nothing had been cleaned. This was a girls weekend away with my adult daughter and I. We booked through Priceline which I have done for years. When I asked for someone to clean our suite, the female desk clerk said they didn’t have anyone there and they didn’t have any other rooms to move us to. I called Priceline to ask what my options were. I was told I had to deal with the hotel. There were no other hotel vacancies around the area we needed so we were stuck. So back up to the room I went. The floor had broken glass by nightstand, fishing sinkers, and a dirty sock. The kitchenette had food on the floor, crumbs, sticky and a gummy (unknown if it was a candy or medicinal). The countertops were also covered in dried on food, sugar and possibly cinnamon and God only knows what else. The coffee maker was filthy so I cleaned it up and ran it so I would be good to go in the morning. However, it was broken and hot water ran out all over the countertop. Which actually was a blessing because the countertop probably hadn’t been sanitized in a very long time. My daughter purchased some Clorox Wipes so we could clean as much as we could. This is really unacceptable. When finding the broken glass, I called down to the front desk and the female clerk (a grown woman) said “just a minute”. She didn’t put me on hold, she just talked to someone near her. I heard her say “well, what do you want me to tell her?”. They visited for a few minutes and she said, “someone will be there in a few minutes”. The housekeeper did come with a vacuum. We showed her the broken glass which was not hard to see and she vacuumed it up as well as some of the sitting area floor. I showed her how dirty the kitchen area was and told her we didn’t have a trash can or towels in kitchen area and she said “oh, sorry. This isn’t my floor, I clean the 3rd floor”. She got us a trash can and bags and turned around and left with the vacuum. This is all terrible in itself, I didn’t mention the huge glob of what looked like feces that was dried up and had run down the wall in the hallway to our room. There is no way anyone with eyesight didn’t see that and even though I told them about it, it was still there the entire time we were lodging there. The inclusion of breakfast was also terrible the first morning. They were out of food an hour before breakfast was to end and made no effort to replace anything. I asked the food service person and she just said “sorry, we’ve been slammed this morning”, “hopefully we will get our truck in the morning so we have food tomorrow”. They did have a nice breakfast the following morning. I know this is wordy but I hope you can learn from our mistake. Don’t take reviews lightly, some had said it was dirty but most were complimentary. The ratings on Priceline are not correct for this location. When we checked out on Monday morning, a very sweet older lady was the desk clerk. She asked how our stay was. I told her our experience. I added probably the worst part was that the weekend clerk didn’t seem to care and didn’t offer any help. I explained that my family owned motels for many years and I understood missing things and getting sidetracked on cleaning, however when an issue is brought to an employee of the hotel and nothing is resolved or even cared about, that is frustrating to say the least. We paid almost $400 for two nights and it was terrible. The check out clerk said “wow, I’m not sure what happened this weekend but there were lots of issues, you're not the only one that told me this”. I asked that she please share this with the manager because if it was my business, I would want to know. She said she definitely would share it with the manager and she would ask him to please make it right with us. No one from the hotel called us, emailed us or made any attempt to apologize for our poor experience. Priceline was not helpful in anyway either. I was told I had to deal with the hotel directly, they had no say. I told Priceline that they should reconsider having this as an option on their website and the person told me they were sorry, they couldn’t help. BEWARE of this location and purchasing stays through Priceline, past experience has been they had their customers backs, not this time! We definitely won’t book another stay here and have used Priceline for the last time.

I paid for a room with a KING bed and a sofa bed and since the room door was jammed (damaged) i was move to a smaller room with a full bed with a sofa. Very uncomfortable after a day in a park. There were bugs in the room.

Gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and personable. Bed was very comfortable. Complimentary washer and dryer. Very impressed. Also had a complimentary social hour with food and beverages provided.

Few updates could be done. Loose toilet handle and had to jiggle handle all week. The entry door way was loud every time we entered or exited the room, and cracked tiles in the bathroom. Otherwise due to price, free breakfast and out door pool would recommend.
