Liberty Hotel, an Ascend Collection Hotel

Beautiful historic building, and front desk was friendly ... BUT this hotel has gone downhill since we last stayed here two years ago. The entry door by handicap access was broken (and from the age of the "out of order" sign, had been for ages), so had to walk around to main entry. The "breakfast" here used to be amazing, but now it's barely like a low-budget hotel. If they want to be a luxury hotel, then little things like this are vital. I'll just stay at the Holiday Inn Express next time.

The hotel is so nice, it's almost like stepping back in time. The bed was comfortable, it was so quiet I didn't even hear other people in the hall. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is because of the water. The pressure was horrible and the hot water barely got warm enough to take a shower. But I will definitely stay here again. And the restaurant next door has a wonderful breakfast.

This is a step up from any other hotel experience at this price. The hotel is old in a good way - high ceilings, solid wood and marble features, and lots of small details that make it feel elevated. There are some superficial textile updates needed, but the overall vibe is fantastic. Our only real problem was that the AC throughout the hotel did not work the first night of our stay, so we were quite hot and had trouble sleeping (windows are bolted shut for safety). AC was repaired while we were there, and our second night was much more comfortable! Would definitely recommend this for a cozy getaway.

The hotel is beautiful and was overall very clean. However, the day we arrived, the manager and several employees had walked out, leaving the man at the front desk (on his first day!) to run the hotel. Not only was our room not ready by checkin time, but we ultimately ended up cleaning our own room, changing our own sheets, etc. The man at the desk was amazing, but in way over his head. He needs a raise, the owner needs to figure out his employee morale problem, and our room should have been comped.

At check in we were told our room wasn't ready and to allow them an hour because they are running behind. We went back 5 hours later because we attended a wedding and walked into a dirty room! We canceled and went home. All hotel guest we encountered had the same experience. Unacceptable!

The appearance of the property is impressive: classic, stately, almost regal. Lovely. First disappointment: the draperies in our corner room (three windows) could not / would not open. There was never any natural daylight in the room because the windows - and the rooftop view - were inaccessible. The biggest disappointment, however, was room service - there was none. We were there for four (4) nights. Our wastebaskets were never emptied. Even when we requested room service and agreed upon a day and time for it, it did not take place. We went to the front desk to request and pick up clean towels. The receptionists were friendly, and gave an explanation for why room service had to be requested, but even then, there was none. That spoiled the stately, classic, regal atmosphere that had been first impressed us.

Beautiful restoration of this older hotel. We would stay there again.
