I think we fell in love with this little piece of heaven as soon as we arrived. Two members of staff greeted us at the gate, and wheeled our suitcases past the lemon and palm trees, along the decking whilst “Love is in the Air” played on the hotel’s speakers. As we entered the family-run hotel, I was immediately impressed by the exquisite and tasteful decor, chosen by Laura, one of the owners of the resort. White ash woodwork complements the displays of numerous shells and corals. Throughout the foyer and indoor dining area there are natural hues of creams, combined with hints of turquoise in the luxurious soft furnishings. In the spacious lounge area, there are gorgeous purple sofas and chairs in which you can sit and look out of the floor to ceiling window onto the almost still aqua marine water, and beyond to Siracusa and the Island of Ortigia. The hotel’s overall feel is worthy of a feature in a “Beautiful Homes” magazine, as every little detail has been lovingly thought of and accomplished.
We were handed the key ( attached to shells, of course!) and taken to room number six, overlooking the beautiful sea. It has a Juliet balcony with white ash shutters. The room is a decent size with a large double bed, upon which is crisp white bedding. Even the fluffy white towels had been bundled with rattan and shells. There are also complimentary flip flops, a shabby chic wardrobe with a full length mirror, safe and a mini bar/fridge. My only suggestion would be to have some drawers or shelves, as we had to leave some of our items in our suitcases. There is a double walk- in shower with Etro toiletries (bath / shower gel, moisturiser, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap and vanity set) .The only sound we could hear at night was the gentle hum of the much needed air conditioning, or the water gently lapping at the shore line, if we chose to leave the doors open.
Normally , a buffet style breakfast is available, but due to the Covid 19 restrictions, things were a little different in that we chose what we wanted to eat, and the waiter or waitress brought the items to our table on the patio. One morning we returned from a walk to discover that we were the only guests, so two tables had been set up to face the sea with various delicious fresh food items already beautifully displayed for us. We felt like royalty, sat there watching the small fish in the clear sea.
The small private beach contains more than ample wooden sun loungers, tables and parasols with comfortable mattresses and towels provided by the attentive “beach” staff. There are also a few larger beds on decking, underneath muslin type sheets suspended from four bamboo posts. At the far end of the beach, there is a raised grassy area with numerous beds and large parasols for some much needed shade. You’re even given a watering can to wash the sand off your feet when you return to your sun lounger!
The hotel dog, Buddy (pronounced Badi) , the 12 year old Golden Retriever , faithfully follows Salvo (the other owner) around the resort, but if you whisper in his ear (Buddy’s not Salvo’s 😃) , he’ll join you for a paddle in the sea.
Overall, this is truly a beautiful place to stay. It’s private , thanks to the wooden fencing . It’s quiet, relaxing, with mellow music playing at various times of the day.
It’s spotlessly clean, well maintained, with lovely, friendly owners and staff.
It’s probably been said numerous times before , but this is an oasis of calm, and practically paradise.
Well done to everyone for creating the right ambience.
Tutto bene. 😍
