Grand Hotel Toplice

A classic hotel. We were welcomed by staff who parked our car for us and welcomed us with a glass of sparkling wine. We had a lovely room overlooking the lake. We walked around the lake which was great and had a swim in the lake too. The hotel has a really nice lakefront area with loungers and it was really nice to use this area. The breakfast was good too.

This almost Edwardian-looking hotel has a fabulous location. The staff are all friendly and try to please. We booked a lake view suite which was a corner room with two balconies and a fairly large bathroom. There was no separate shower cubicle but there was a shower attached to the bath taps, which had possibly the world’s smallest shower head. It was also positioned on the wall in the middle of the bath and the screen didn’t reach it. There was a bath stopper mechanism that did not work, so you either could not stop the bath from emptying or you had to force the stopper down and needed some sort of lever to open it again. The bedroom contained a lot of furniture. Plenty of hanging space, drawers and shelves and far too much furniture. A large bed, a large, very uncomfortable sofa, two uncomfortable arm chairs and a stool. The wardrobe range was about two inches too long, so the bedroom door and the wardrobe range edges were chipped where they clashed each time the door was open. Next to the range was a solid low table to rest your suitcase on when unpacking. Unfortunately, with it in place you could not open the balcony door, so I tipped the table onto its side. The paintwork on the balcony door and shutters had almost completely peeled off. I understand that the hotel is to have a major renovation in 2026 which will result in it closing for at least a year, and it really needs it. I hope it won’t loose its old world charm.

While the hotel is so old, they work hard to preserve it and make it gorgeous! Very clean and well tended to, this hotel lends a grand atmosphere for guests arriving.

This is a beautiful hotel with (in lake-side rooms) a stunning view. We got lucky - the room we were originally given had a broken air conditioner so we were given their one of their 2 newly refurbished rooms. The room was beautiful and comfortable and had those handy USB charging ports that are so useful. We had a balcony room and the balcony was just so pleasant! The one real complaint was the A/C. It worked great during the day! But at night for some reason - regardless of what we set it on - it was hot and didn't work well. It was explained to us that this was because the hotel was now eco-friendly and had a cap on A/C temps. Supposedly it was set on 73 - which is what I have my home set on. It was not 73 in that room. It had to be at least 77 or 78. The designers put a chandelier in the room - which really was unnecessary. The lighting around the bed was perfect & we never used the chandelier. I really, really wish they'd put in a ceiling fan instead. Then we wouldn't have even needed A/C. With the doors open and a ceiling fan, it would have been very pleasant without A/C - which would then be far more eco-friendly! Apart from this, the breakfast was ok. I'm not sure if the a la carte items (like omelets and scrambled eggs for example) were at an extra charge - my husband insisted they were. If they weren't extra, then the breakfast would be perfect. If they were, then I felt the breakfast lacked a solid protein option (like scrambled eggs).

Stayed a couple of nights here in June 25. On the positive side the people are very friendly and helpful, In particular reception and valet parking were excellent! Also on the positive side the hotel is in a superb position and the lake side has wonderful views. It’s a bit tired in places though, the paintwork on our balcony doors was flaking off and the balcony itself was a bit shabby. Room felt a bit tired too with antiquated shower etc. So not quite good enough for ‘five stars’ in my opinion. Oh and one other thing, a good night’s sleep should be a basic requirement of a hotel not an added extra. Being confronted with a chargeable pillow menu was a bit much given there was only one full size pillow for each person as standard. Not a good way to go!

We stayed for 2 nights in May. The views are gorgeous and location very convenient. Front desk staff very helpful, kind - especially Marion, who gave incredible tips for sightseeing near Bohinj. Dejan was also very nice. Breakfast was pretty good, not the 5 star service experienced at other hotels in Slovenia. Room service was extremely difficult to access and on the second night I simply brought food to one member of the party from a restaurant in town, as the server in the lobby was wholeheartedly uninterested in helping me order (no one was answering the phone). This was on May 26 if the hotel would like to investigate. One perk - access to the rowing boats, which we utilized to visit Bled Island. Rooms are dated, but scheduled for renovation in 2025/26. Showers need major updating to reduce water leakage while showering/better lighting for getting ready. I do hope they keep the beautiful herringbone wooden floors, which were gorgeous. AC is ok, but it does turn off if your doors are open and doesn't run very cold (we ended up just leaving the doors open, as it was in the 60s at night).

I am giving it 5 stars for the friendly staff the beautiful old world decor and charm of the hotel and the fabulously location. I looked around at the other hotels and I would say this place would be hard to beat. Our beautiful lake side view was awesome. This place is straight out of a fairy tale.

Most wonderful highlight to my vacation. Very unique place! Breath taking views all amenities like pool and sauna . everything is in the walking distance. Most friendly , informative, and very professional staff. People who work there most attentive, And I can tell that they love their job and their town. They make you feel special and most wanted guest. We cannot ask for anything more ,maybe just different mattresses for bed.I would definitely stay there again.
