"Rude!"

1.0

Only the location.

The owners are extremely rude. I’d booked for a relative of ours for two nights. On the second night our relative was stopped at the door being told “you can’t come in you haven’t paid!” Had I been with my relative I would have had something to say, unfortunately (or fortunately for the owners) I wasn’t. When I went to then pay the bill and sort it out so my relative was able to be allowed back in… (my details were on booking.com and the exact same card was used to pay) we were told that because my relative was ‘travelling light’ they thought it was a ‘scam’, it also appears that my relatives bag had been gone through.. At the time I was quite taken aback at the attitude but upon reflection this is totally unacceptable. We were also told that we should have booked direct to get a better deal.. we’d already tried that and the price quoted was double! Ontop of this, when going for breakfast at 8.10am which was between 8-9am time slot, my relative was told “I have to get my workers breakfast first, if everyone came down together there’s not enough room for everyone” All in all not a great experience and won’t be using again even if it is the most convenient location for us.

"Quirky place"

6.0

Really good breakfast. Quirky, arty decor in an interesting old building. Enjoyed sitting in the sumptuously eccentric lounge before dinner.

The whole place could do with decorating. Paint coming off windows etc. Dinner was described in the menu as being supplied by "our offsite catering facility". This turned out to be the local chinese restaurant, and was even served to us in the plastic containers. Why don't they just tell you this? On check out, I was disturbed at having to pay for breakfast in cash. Yes, it did say this on Booking.com but I had missed this. Interesting... And I don't know why the owner needs to tell me I should have booked direct and give me her political views when all I'm trying to do is check out.

"A really comfortable stay"

8.0

Meryan House is a quaint hotel that offers very comfortable rooms. We found the manager and staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a nice bar and restaurant. The breakfast was especially good.

The floors are a bit creaky but that's the nature of the building construction

"A hidden Gem"

10.0

An absolute gem of a hotel, full of charm and character. A warm welcome. An overnight stay as of to a Wedding the next day but wouldn't hesitate to stay longer. The breakfast was superb, an excellent choice of cereals, choice of juices, fresh fruit and a cooked breakfast of your choice from the menu. I had bacon which was cooked to perfection, mushrooms and eggs. I was told that all locally sourced. Highly recommend Adequate parking also

There was nothing I didn't like
