"Read this if going as a family"

8.0

If planning a family holiday here, please read. Pools - 2/5 - you must read on before you book Slides 1/5 Food - 4.5/5 Accommodation 4.5/5 Cleanliness 4/5 Friendliness of front desk staff 5/5 Location of hotel 4/5 if you're happy to walk 15mins. Lots great about this hotel genuinely, but the pools/slide were a let down. There are 3 heated pools, all year round which is great, the splashpark, the bottom of the slides (which you just exit from) and a small pool to the side of the main pool -The beautiful picture of the pools which are probably tempting you to book are NOT heated, they are deserted as it is freezing. What a waste! It means everybody is crammed into the small side pool. The aqua gym, water polo etc take place in here, which makes it even smaller. I tried to swim with my toddlers on two days and its just carnage. People jumping in, kids in massive inflatables etc, not the kids fault at all, the pool just isn't big enough. It is warm though. The slides were a pull factor for us too but you literally had to push yourself down them, from top to bottom. Pathetic. All it needed was a bit of extra water going down the slide, but they wouldn't increase it, surely that's an easy fix?! No point using them otherwise, shame. When reading reviews on here, I almost decided to swap hotel. The main gripes I read were, slow to get drinks, awful food, unfriendly staff and slow check-in. Out of all of those comments, in our experience only a long wait at the bar is correct. I wasnt AI so it didnt bother me but there was always a big queue waiting at bars. Food however was lovely, breakfast had literally everything I could think of, evening meals had theme nights, the Arabic (Friday night) and Mexican night were the best but all were good. Reception staff so approachable too. The rooms were amazing, whole hotel was spotless (apart from the one bin by the heated pool as everyone was there) and the location is a 15min walk to playa flamingo - the most sheltered beach on the island - and playa blanca itself. We ate at Puerto Blanca one night and it was perfection just FYI. Final point, lanzarote is a very windy island, playa blanca is most sheltered part but still factor it in. Here 20 degrees doesn't feel like it with wind chill.

"If you are looking for a peaceful Adults only hotel, DO NOT STAY HERE!!!"

4.0

If you, like us wanted to have a peaceful holiday and were misled by the Hotel and Love Holidays that this hotel is, IT MOST DEFINATELY IS NOT!!!! All of the pictures and descriptions show the whole facility, Elba Lanzarote Royal Village Resort as Adults only, but only the sleeping accommodation and a pint size pool with a restaurant, which only offers junk food is adults only. The food bar for cheese and salads was covered in flies and birds were feeding from it, really disgusting! The main lobby, main bar and surrounding areas are full of children, running about and screaming. If you think you can escape to the Spa for a relaxing treatment, don't bother, the hotel lets children use the spa every morning, and you can hear the screams from the treatment rooms. Not only that, but the adults only accommodation section was constantly being visited by families with small children. The noise coming from the main Family pool was so loud that every afternoon we had to go to the town to get some peace and quiet. The adult's pool was tiny, for the amount of people around it, and very few people went swimming as the water is freezing. Now don't get me wrong, we love kids, we have had our own and both work in schools so when we go away, all we want is peace away from them. The other annoying part is that there are no signs saying that the area we were in is adults only, so you can't blame the families who came into it. This hotel does not cater of adults; there is only one adult only restaurant which is used for all meals and the food is always Lukewarm not hot, the quality was more like a canteen, and many time we had to wait for basic things like cutlery and coffee cups to be cleaned as there was never enough! We spoke to the manager who was on duty and she just agreed with us!! Not helpful really. There are three other restaurants in the main family part of the hotel, and all allow children in, and the noise levels were just unbearable, so much so that we started eating in town for lunch and dinner just to get some peace and good food. We contacted Love holidays to complain about this, and they basically did not want to know. The only positives were the beautiful well-kept gardens, they are immaculate the suite was roomy and has an outside terrace which was nice, albeit not very private and most of the staff, especially in reception were fantastic. So be warned, this is defiantly not a 4 star and definitely not Adults only. If you are looking for a peaceful holiday, DO NOT STAY HERE!

"10/10 Lovely Hotel"

10.0

We got back this morning from our holiday after staying at the Elba Lanzarote Hotel. Me and my partner both looked at the reviews on Trip Advisor before our holiday and we were worried about what other people had written about the hotel, so our expectations were low, however we were completely amazed by how lovely this hotel is! From the very start of our holiday, everything was fantastic. We arrived early and were lucky to check-in to our room earlier than expected, checking in at reception was quick, easy and very welcoming. Staff very helpful. Our room was lovely. It was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the air conditioning was great. We were also regularly visited by a friendly cat, which we loved. The swimming pool was very cold like other people have mentioned, but it was refreshing after being in the hot sun and the water wasn't so cold after a few minutes. Plenty of sunbeds, pool bar was good and had a decent selection of drinks. We don't have children, so I can't comment on the children's entertainment. We didn't use the spa, so I also can't comment on that. Didn't use the gym but it was well equipped. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was good and the food was very good, a variety of different dishes, no problems at all. Lots of waiters in the restaurant during dinner and tea and tables were cleared in good time. There is an on-site gift shop which was handy as we needed more suncream, a bit pricey but helpful no less. The cashier was very friendly. We wanted to check-out late due to our late flight, however due to availability we were unable to do so. This was not an issue as the hotel staff allowed us to continue our all inclusive access until we left, so we could have dinner and drinks. We stored our suitcases in the luggage room. And they had a hospitality room, equipped with showers and toilets, which was very useful. Overall it was a brilliant holiday and we would definitely stay here again.

"Elba Royal Village – A Lovely Family Stay"

8.0

Overall Overview We had a really enjoyable stay at Elba Royal Village Hotel and would happily return. The hotel has a beautiful, relaxed “village” feel with gorgeous grounds and a great atmosphere, especially for families. The staff truly make the experience – everyone we encountered was friendly, approachable, and clearly working very hard to provide a wonderful guest experience. While there are a few areas that could be improved, they didn’t take away from what was overall a very enjoyable holiday and positive experience. Pros.. - We arrived late and check in was prompt. A set meal was kindly arranged for 11pm in the main restaurant. We didn’t stay for this though as we had two very tired children 😴 - The staff are fantastic – always friendly, helpful, and hardworking. A special thank you to Valentina, Andrea, Omar, Sheila, and Diana and to the ladies on guest relations. - Beautiful, well-maintained grounds with a lovely layout that gives the hotel a unique village feel. - Amazing maintenance team - thank you Jose Luis for helping us with a temporary fix to our new suitcase which arrived off the plane damaged 😅 - Spacious, modern, comfortable rooms each with a large sun terrace. Tip - Let the hotel Know if you require a bath or shower specifically as some rooms have either or. - Rooms were immaculate. Note housekeeping can be as late as 6pm - you can however request a particular time if you so wish. I did miss this detail but it is noted on the info you receive at check in. Excellent for families – great facilities including slides, a splash zone for younger children, and a sandy play park. - Plenty of pool areas to choose from. One slightly heated. Lifeguard on duty. - The animation team were brilliant – full of energy and enthusiasm. A weekly timetable can be found inside the main building and there really is something for everyone. Mike, Lulu, Paula & Costa all made a big impression and our children loved getting involved in the activities they organised. This made a huge difference in tackling boredom on days when the weather was a little unpredictable. The poolside games & prizes are a great way of getting everyone involved and the prize giving each evening was a thoughtful touch. - Magic show was fantastic! - The restaurant is pleasant with a good variety of food. Each night had a different theme but there were always consistent options too. There are also two al a carte restaurants which could have been booked once during our stay but we didn’t bother. - Nice extra touches for kids and adults alike. Eg. sweets at dinner, an ice cream station and even a chocolate fountain one evening. - Great location – an easy walk to the town (10mins), flamingo beach (10mins) and marina and very close to Aqualava Waterpark (5minutes). - On site photographers always happy to capture beautiful memories throughout the day and into early evening. Cons.. - The heated pool is quite small and can get busy. We found the temperature isn’t always consistent and often with only one small jet heating the pool with the rest blowing cold water. We did find this chilly to be honest. - At busier times, the restaurant and bar areas can feel a little stretched staffing wise, leading to queues or delays clearing tables. That being said, I do feel like guests have a responsibility to be respectful and keep their dining space clean and tidy which sadly wasn’t always the case. - We did occasionally notice some cleanliness issues with dishes in the restaurant where plates and cutlery were clearly tarnished. You could tell these had been through the dishwasher but perhaps should have been rinsed first. - additional charges for the in room safe, tennis courts, indoor pool and for water at dinner came as a surprise and we consider unusual for a 4* hotel. We were quoted EUR40.00 for one adult and 2 children for the use of the crowded indoor pool for a couple of hours one drizzly morning. Putting it into context it was only EUR71 to spend the day at Aqualava. - We did encounter one rude individual (Anteya ) who, on two separate occasions actually snarled when I enquired about facilities. I was rather taken aback that a customer facing manager would behave in this way. Once could be overlooked & put down to someone having a bad day but twice isn’t ok. Final Thoughts.. This is a lovely, family-friendly hotel with a great atmosphere and a team of staff who genuinely care about guests having a good time. The facilities for both adults and children are excellent and there’s always something going on. With just a few small improvements, this would be an outstanding resort. As it stands, it’s still a place we’d happily recommend and would consider returning to for a relaxed family holiday. Thank you to the whole team at Elba Lanzarote Royal Village for an amazing stay! x

"Could be oustanding...but nothing is perfect!"

8.0

Location was great! Short walk to the main street and small beach, and less than 30 min from airport. Nice atmosphere. Room was clean and we loved the fact rooms are not vertically structured. The "bungalow" format was great for us. Facilities well maintained: garden, spa, pools, etc. Value was good as we paid far in advance. Obviously, nothing is perfect. I would defenitely go back there but only if the management reviews the organization of the restaurant in terms of serving drinks. We finished most of our meals without a drink (not even water!!). The staff didn't serve us, actually they simply ignored us because they were more concerned about cleaning tables. I urge the management to consider self-service for drinks (at least water and soft drinks). The best thing for us was the use of the spa indoor pool as the weather was not warm enough for the outside pool. It saved our holiday 😊

"Great hotel but poor restaurant"

8.0

This is a lovely hotel, amazing for families, especially those with younger children. We travelled as a family of 4, age 9 and 5, all inclusive. Room is of a good size, bed in main bedroom is very spacious and very comfy. Kids slept on a sofa bed which was a bit cramped and then didn’t allow us any living space but there is an outdoor terrace. Found it difficult for storage, although the bedroom wardrobe is large I found it hard to store the kids clothes so had to keep sliding the suitcases underneath the sofa bed. If there was some draws in here instead of a dressing table it would be better. Great kids pool and plenty of sun loungers. Weather wasn’t great during our visit but the sun loungers around the kids pool are popular and get room up first. Loads of activites for the kids. My 5yo loved the kids club which had a small soft play area and games area. Access I think was 11am to 1pm and then 3pm to 5pm. You could either stay with your child or sign them in and leave them which I thought was great. They put a vest on your child if you leave them so they know they can’t leave. They had a foam party for the kids here on a Saturday which they loved. They also have a mascot ‘Pepe’ which all the kids love dancing to the song and buying the Pepe teddy from reception. The kids play with them in an evening. Entertainment on an evening is kids club 8am then a show 9pm. Always finished by 10pm but you can sit in the bar after if you wish. I thought it was quite early which is why I think the hotel caters better to younger families. My only gripe with the hotel was with the restaurant. During breakfast and lunch unless you arrive first it is very difficult to get a table that is cleaned and set. There are lots available but either with other people leftovers or the plates have been removed and the table has not been reset with cutlery and napkins. We often had to stand beside a table and request someone to come and provide us with cutlery and napkins. They often then did not clean the tables in-between different people sitting down which really bothered me. In previous hotels plates are cleared, tables wiped down and new cutely etc provided ready for us to be seated. This was not a problem on an evening as you were greeted on arrival and taken to your table. Drinks are table service on a lunch and evening. This is also not an issue on an evening but is very slow during lunch, often drinks arriving part way through our meal. I think a self service to drinks would be much better as many guests were going to the waiters area and helping themselves, as bottles of water had a cap on people were tying to open them without a bottle opener! Breakfast you can help yourself to tea/coffee/juice and water. They also had fresh smoothies. Breakfast food was lovely with a good selection and fresh fruit, however, they ran out of everything and took ages to replenish, no bowl for cereal, then no milk, then no spoons, then no glasses for juice, wait for more pancakes for the kids to come out, ran out of Nutella, melon ran out. It was just a content wait all the time. Breakfast took us 45mins to 1hour which to be honest takes us less than half an hour usually. Selection of food during lunch and evening was standard, nothing special, didn’t find the food quality great to be honest. Always had pizza (which was very nice) pasta (sometime stuck together and dried up) selection of pasta sauces, paella, meats, cheese, salad etc but then a very small selection of other food. Only 4 trays usually with potato’s and some sort of vegetables. Then kids always had hotdogs plain rice and veg. They cooked fresh meat and fish on the go but I found it very chewy. They had a chocolate fountain one evening but we chose to go into the restaurant late due to the ques to get in, there was no fruit or sweets or even skewers left and they didn’t replenish even though we went in at 8.30 and the restaurant was open until 9.30. It’s a much better experience if you go to the restaurant early. Overall we had a great time but the restaurant let it down for me, slow service, dirty tables, poor choice and quality and slow at replenishing. For this I would not return again but if your not fussed on the food you will have a great time!

"Ok but wouldn’t return"

6.0

Bungalow style rooms and beds comfy, small football pitch, daily pass to the water park nearby (which was included in our package) and a busy entertainment programme kept my 7 year-old happy. Overall the hotel was adequate however the pools were freezing even the small heated one (which was very busy) was still cold. Massive queue for drinks at the bar all the time and it was difficult to find a clean table in the dinner hall - it was obvious there wasn’t even staff. Food was ok. I’d rate a 3 star rather than a 4 star hotel. Location ok, about a 10/15 minute walk down a main road to the sea front.

"Poor experience :("

4.0

First time I’ve ever left a negative review on a hotel but just had to so that other families do not waste their hard earned money. There are so many better hotels than this!!! I genuinely wish I had took the negative reviews more seriously. The food was POOR, without a doubt the worst all inclusive buffet food I’ve ever had. Myself and my son (aged 3) had sickness and diarrhoea for 48 hours and believe this was due to the food at the all inclusive. The outdoor snack bar was the worst - all birds flying over the food and pecking at it. Never even risked eating from there. The only positive thing I have to say about the hotel is the kids pool and the grounds/terrace that each room has it is lovely and spacious. With feeling poorly it was great to have the sunbeds on the terrace and not have to worry about venturing out to the pool. The town was more of a walk from the hotel than we expected. Nice walk down but walking back up the hill to the hotel was sometimes a struggle - this is definitely worth noting incase you have any struggles physically.

"Another superb holiday, in a very special hotel, with great staff."

10.0

Have visited this hotel, many times before, and it never disappoints. The big bonus is SPACE, no fighting for room around the pools, no being squashed in the restaurant, not feeling confined, no noise from adjacent rooms. The staff are also great, especially Chus, looking after the adults section pool bar / restaurant. An outstanding member of the hotel. Useful having a hotel shop, can buy snacks, extra water, [each room is given a free bottle every day though], fresh milk, and the usual souveniers, sun tan lotion etc. Spa is great, gym is small, but rarely too busy, Pity no hairdressers there, can be annoying. Evening entertainment is mixed, much better when they bring in outside entertainers. Food is also mixed, but always something you fancy, probably a few too many Asian / Arab type nights. Restauant staff work hard and clear away well, replace food items quickly. But they do tend to start "shutting down" early, though they say open till 9.30, they do tend to start clearing items well before 9.00. Will be booking again, for the usualChristmas / New Year break very soon. Always treated like very special clients, when we're there, and love the atmosphere.
