The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare requires all international visitors to submit their passport number and nationality when registering at any lodging facility (inns, hotels, motels, etc. ). Additionally, lodging proprietors are required to photocopy passports for all registering guests and keep the photocopy on file. To be honest I didn’t have high expectations about this small hotel in Kiso. We were using this town as a stopover while finishing the Yabuhara to Narai leg of the Nakasendo. What a very pleasant surprise! We stayed in the Annex - which sounds worse than it is. It’s just the building across the road from the ryokan style main building. It was western style bed with ensuite. Very comfortable rooms. They provide Japanese style lounge pants, top and a blanket thing you shape into a jacket to change into to cross the road to the main building to access the Onsen. The onsen is lovely and well equipped. The location is close to lots of places to eat and the staff provide an English language map which helps. Highly recommend this cute little hotel/ryokan.

Onsen was very nice. The room was nicely sized, 4 beds laid across the ground. Was nice to experience a Japanese style room. Provided parking for us also which was very nice.
