"Aweful hotel in Scotland"

2.0

It started that I arrived at 2pm but the doors were closed. Had to wait 30 min. Than I got a room below the roof with a lot of space not useuable. The windows were dirty, not been cleaned since 20 years. The batteties of remote control were empty and the cable to the receiver was broken. The manager spend 30 min to repair it and left his blood everywhere. The bathroom was dirty, had a waterleak at the handbasin and the bathtub looked blackish. I gave the staff a bag with some food, when I got it back the bag had dissapiered and one of the foodcontainers broken. Tried to adjust the heat and the handle fell off. The bed was small and the matress old. DON'T BOOK THIS HOTEL!

"Excellent value"

My room was clean and the bed comfortable. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Really liked the late breakfast time. Breakfast was fairly basic but was as you would expect for the price paid which was really reasonable. Bacon was really good.

"Had better."

4.0

First impressions was not good. Hotel is being renovated, there was sheets of Aqua panel lying against the lobby wall. The room was dusty and the venetian blind was all lop sided and was obviously not working,I managed to get it closed and left it that way. There was a hole in wall below sink and exposed pipes and we never had clean cups for second day and no drinking glasses. We never had breakfast so can't comment but evening meal was ok. The hotel is central close to railway station.

"A little gem of a find!"

10.0

Great host, very friendly and helpful who couldn't do enough. As I was travelling on my own, I felt very safe and well looked after. Lovely bedroom, spotlessly clean. Great access to the Cairngorms and surrounding areas. Wonderful home-cooked food. Had dinner after a long journey enjoying a great glass of Pinot. The menu is quite uncomplicated and simple, but the quality is excellent, the portions generous and home made. It was lovely to see the restaurant/bar quite full too - especially on a Monday night. Excellent cooked breakfast too set me up for the day. Would definitely go back

"Disappointing"

4.0

Kingussie is a pleasant small town , however this hotel has got a lot of deficiencies. The room was clean and appeared newly painted. However no chair (where do you put your clothes) , only one bedside light. My wife had to stand on the toilet seat to reach the cord for the shower. The curtains were very thin so the street light just outside shone brightly into the room. At dinner my steak smelt "off". My companions agreed with this. The waitress who was great, busy but pleasantly efficient, took it away instantly . However she returned to say chef (?owner/manager) said the smell was the sauce- no it wasnt!! - when I said this , I was offered alternative choice from menu. We were told breakfast was after 9am and no (manager ?owner) said they could not do anything earlier. I have never, ever heard of this previously. We queried this and were told "was on the website"- no it isnt , I checked. What is to stop them doing a continental breakfast where one helps oneself if too early for cooked breakfast I understand the hotel is under new management and one does wish them well in a new venture. I dont think I have a critical attitude ( my reviews are usually very positive) but the owner/manager need to improve a lot.

"As requested"

6.0

Due to train delay did not arrive until 10-30 pm, but arrived by car not train! Chose this hotel because it is literally across the road from the train station. for this it is ideal. No food available but rachel behind the bar conjured up some tomato soup and two miniscule pieces of bread for which we were charged £5 EACH. The 5* Cross at kingussie only charges that and they have the Scottish young chef of the year!! The bar area seemed dark, dingy and the windows were filthy. The bedside light was impossible to read by. We were tired from our long journey so maybe our first impression was a bit jaundiced. Generally the hotel was ok but could do with a makeover
