Hilltop Vacation Rental

We absolutely loved sitting on our balcony throughout our stay. It was definitely the highlight of this room, with stunning views and peaceful breezes (except the crowing roosters). The location of this property gave us easy access to everything we wanted to do in the Hilo area, which was a big plus. The price was more than reasonable and the hosts were helpful. The only downside was substandard pillows and a hard bed (which someone else might not mind, but I found uncomfortable). All in all, I would recommend this location.

This is a very economical but charming place to stay. It has more of an Airbnb feel to it. The setting is quite wonderful. I think for it to be convenient it helped a lot to have a vehicle. Good small refrigerator, small microwave and a Keureg coffee maker, but not much else for food preparation and eating. I enjoyed the chickens.

My wife and I spent one night at Hilltop as part of our 4 day trip to the BI. We stayed in the largest king bedroom . The house itself is impressive, especially the exterior and grounds and it is well located near downtown Hilo. I recommend you ask the owner to turn on the air conditioner at least 2-3 hours before arriving. We arrived to a sweltering bedroom. The only TV was in the downstairs shared common area which has no AC. And as others have noted, parking is a problem in a small driveway area. Expect to hear several roosters crowing right outside the bathroom window throughout the night. And don’t expect plush, fresh smelling hotel quality bathroom towels. At least that is not we were provided. Hilltop was ok for a one night stay, but I can’t recommend an extended stay here unless the owners make some improvements.

The property had great views and good birds. Parking was a bit tricky but there are designated spots for the guests. Had to drive to get to restaurants and stores. The frogs and roosters were noisy but we got used to them. I gave an average rating for staff and service because we never saw the staff which was good but we did hear some noise from mowing and weeding and tree chopping.

We stayed in room 3, the Panoramic suite. Despite what the photos showed, there is no dresser in the room. In fact, there was no closet, dresser, wardrobe, clothing rack or clothing hooks. For the 4 days and 3 nights we stayed, we were forced to live out of our suitcases and deal with wrinkled clothes. I got so desperate I began hanging outfits from curtain rods. The bed was large and comfortable but oddly enough there is only one nightstand. I slept on the side without a nightstand and therefore had to put my phone and beverages on the floor as there was nowhere else near the bed to put it. The air conditioner in the room photos showed it inside of the bedroom but it’s since been moved to the opposite end of the suite in the kitchenette. The kitchenette is surrounded by single pane glass that heavily leaks the air. This meant the kitchenette was cooler but there was zero air circulation or fan inside the actual bedroom. This made it very uncomfortable and muggy to sleep. The walls and floors are very thin and we could hear people talking, dogs barking, doors shutting…etc. it wasn’t terrible but also not ideal. There is a rather large 2-3” gap under the door to the room. This made us very uncomfortable as literally anyone could look underneath or film with their cellphone. We ended up rolling a towel and placing it in front for privacy. The shower had decent water pressure but it only came in two temperatures. Melt your skin hot, and scalding hot.

Absolutely perfect. My husband and I reserved the room with the king-sized bed for a week and it exceeded all of our expectations. The property is gorgeous, the ocean view is breathtaking, and its walking distance to downtown Hilo. The parking space is tight but the house and room with a private balcony made up for it. We had a small fridge wich was great and the wifi was strong. Jade (the owner) was flexible with our reservation and just so great to work with.

The property was beautiful and had great views! Very nicely kept and the rooms were clean and cute. Definitely a unique stay! The service was also great and we enjoyed the amenities. We would highly recommend staying here.

Very comfortable bed and air conditioning when needed made room easy to have a good temperature for sleeping. Beautiful lanai and living area. Water pressure could be better and it varied during the stay. It’s the only thing that could improve. The rooster was a very good alarm for us because we did need to get up early, but for people who needed to sleep in, may be problematic. Really easy check in and check out with good security system.

Hilltop Vacation Was so wonderful, country like Home with very beautiful breathtaking views, quiet, country like atmosphere with chickens, a cat, romantic garden and more importantly: Everyone here at Hilltop Vacation make us feel so welcome and safe as well as helpful in any way! The gentleman from downstairs was very nice and helpful and greeted us with a nice smile! Thank you all for being so kind and for the beautiful Clean House!!! I will most definitely look forward to continue booking Hilltop Vacation and my family and friends will be considering it the first choice when they come to visit Big Island!! I LOVED IT THERE!!!
