We recently spent almost 14 days at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, and it was truly a memorable family holiday.
From the moment we arrived in Malé, the experience was very well organized. We waited for the seaplane in a comfortable lounge with refreshments and a small play area for children, which made the 1.5-hour wait perfectly manageable. The seaplane transfer itself takes about 45 minutes. Upon arrival on the island, we were warmly welcomed with drums, refreshing welcome drinks, and immediately introduced to our personal butler. Our villa was ready right away, so we quickly changed and went straight into the incredibly warm and crystal-clear sea.
We stayed in Beach Villa 204 without a pool. In hindsight, we do not regret choosing a villa without a pool, as the ocean is so beautiful that we did not see much added value in having a private pool. The villa was very spacious for the four of us and always stocked with 4 liters of water and snacks. Housekeeping cleaned the villa three times daily, which might sound excessive, but with the amount of sand that naturally comes inside, it was very welcome. The outdoor shaded lounge area with a large sofa was also cleaned regularly. For those looking for the best views, Beach Villas 303–318 (with pools) likely have the most attractive outlook.
The food was excellent and diverse. The tuna steak was outstanding. We chose the all-inclusive package; however, it is worth noting that not everything is included, and snacks are limited to once per day within the package. That said, the overall culinary experience was very good. A particularly charming touch was the homemade ice cream served daily between approximately 1 pm and 4 pm from a bicycle accompanied by cheerful music. Coconut and banana-caramel flavors were especially good.
The resort is exceptionally well maintained, clean, and staffed by genuinely kind employees who clearly care about their guests. Waiters were attentive and accommodating at all times. In the evenings there was live music, always ending by midnight.
For families, the resort is particularly suitable. The kids’ club was a highlight for our children, who looked forward to going every day because there were always engaging activities. Leah, one of the caregivers, became very dear to them. There is also a mini disco in the evenings. Additional activities include badminton, tennis, table tennis, darts, billiards, and various water sports such as canoeing, SUP, and scooters. There are also two pools — one adults-only and one family pool. The children’s pool felt quite warm (around 32°C), but this may be a matter of preference.
We joined several excursions: a local island visit, dolphin trip, manta trip, and night fishing trip. All were well organized and included drinks (and food on longer trips). The manta trip was the highlight — we saw manta rays, dolphins, turtles, and a magnificent coral reef. On the island itself, large nurse sharks and blacktip sharks often gather near the jetty after 4 pm, which is very interesting to observe.
Mosquitoes are present, but the staff actively spray the island almost daily to reduce them. They were noticeable but not overwhelming.
Practical details worth mentioning:
• You can call a buggy at any time, and within minutes you are transported anywhere on the island.
• Fresh towels are always available, both at designated stations and placed daily on your private loungers.
• It is possible to walk around the island along the beach in about 30 minutes at a brisk pace.
• There are small shops with clothes, souvenirs, and jewelry.
• A photographer is available — we hired one and were very satisfied with the photos.
• The spa offers massages, beauty treatments, and even spa options for children.
• WiFi coverage is good, but sometimes it just fails to connect if you move around the island.
One minor downside is the number of seaplanes, which start operating around 6:15 am. The noise woke me daily, though the rest of my family was not disturbed.
For our departure, we paid extra for lounge access in Malé, which I would recommend, especially if your international flight departs late.
Overall, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi is a highly recommendable resort, particularly for families with children. We spent most of our holiday barefoot, fully relaxed. When it was time to leave, it genuinely felt too soon.
