Port Douglas Sands Resort

A nice place little bit of a walk into town 20 mins.

Excellent family resort

This resort is comfortable, clean and spacious and self-sufficient - almost felt like being at home rather than at a hotel or motel. We used it as a base to get out to Great Barrier Reef, Cape Tribulation etc. We had a hired car so got into downtown very quickly and easily - this resort would be inconvenient for those without a car. Breakfast was basic but it is the type of breakfast most people have before leaving for work - Weetbix, rice toasties, toast, coffee. tea etc. A microwave, eggs, bacon, fruit etc would be welcome additions.

We had a wonderful stay at the Sands Resort. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We enjoyed the pool and made good use of the pool facilities. our room was very comfortable.

Good idea to provide breakfast which is of great help?

Our stay at the Port Douglas Sands Resort was excellent. We arrived after reception had closed and collected our keys from the safe as advised. Our room was very clean on arrival, but the a/c controller batteries were flat, We called the number advised and it was fixed straight away. Continental breakfast was a great start to the day and as we were leaving early on the last day we were given provisions to take to our room. We noticed that the site was constantly maintained and that a number of units were being refurbished. This was all done without disturbing the guests. We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Our 6 year old daughter thoroughly loved the pool and spent many hours in there. There was plenty of equipment (balls, noodles, etc to amuse) and there was also a well equipped sand pit. The self catering facilities were very good with a full cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave etc. Car parking was underground and secure and there was lift access to the accommodation floors. We would highly recommend the Sands Resort and the only reason we have rated room comfort less than excellent is because there was no air conditioning in the bedrooms, and coming from SA, we struggled to sleep in the humidity This is a reflection of us and not the resort :-). We would like to thank Amanda and Matt for a fantastic holiday and we would definitely advise anyone with a young family to stay there.
