Port Douglas Sands Resort

The sands is a clean, tidy and reasonably priced resort close to the beach and town. The unit I stayed in was spacious with 2 bedrooms and a full kitchen. Was quiet during the night. No complaints.

Port Douglas is very hot and there is only one air conditioner which they would go into your room & shut off when you left. It takes 14 hours to cool down unit, my husband had to sleep on the couch 3 times bc it was so hot. They're supposed to clean room weekly, only made bed, didn't even change sheets. Very dirty when we got there too. Also, no security. No locks to enter complex, no parking security, no security chain or deadbolt on room door. I would not even consider returning. We tried to leave after 1 day bc of all these problems but no refunds.

Great place for a family stay, priced right for the location.

The resort was very clean, facilities good, car park available for our rental car.

We stayed with our 3 teenage (18, 15, 13) girls so someone had to sleep on the foldout bed in the lounge area and foldout beds are never the most comfortable. The walk into Main Street takes 20/25 mins which was not a problem for us. We drove to cape tribulation through the Daintree which was lovely and also went to the Mareeba museum which was free and well worth going to. We drove to Cairns to get the boat to go snorkelling as it offered a better price for us.

Our family of 2 adults & 2 children stayed in a 2 bedroom fully self contained "standard" apartment, the apartment overall was neat & tidy with pleasant decor & large balcony for outdoor dining. Kitchen was well equipped with full size electric stove & oven, dishwasher, microwave, and full size fridge/freezer. There was a dining area next to the kitchen, and a well appointed lounge area with digital tv & Foxtel. Nicely appointed bathroom/toilet doubled as private laundry with full size top loading washing machine and wall dryer. Both bedrooms had built-in robes & bedside drawers so plenty of space for storing clothes & putting suitcases out of the way. The beds, a queen & two singles, were firm & comfortable, & plenty of extra pillows provided. The grounds were well appointed, the tropical gardens & lawn areas are well established & looked after. The apartments are built around the centrally located pool & bbq area. The deep pool with spa & separate shallow toddlers area, was quite large, very clean & regularly maintained. The pool & bbq area was a great place to meet other guests & talk about the day's planned events and gather info about where to go & what to see. Next to the pool/bbq area was the complimentary continental breakfast area, this area was neatly laid out & prepared for guests every morning, it also had a wall of tourist info available. The resort had plenty of underground car parking, with more than enough car spaces to accommodate residents & guests.

1bathroom ,small included toilet laundry shower vanity unsuitable for 4 adults Seating in lounge very hard and uncomfortable. Kitchen ok Lift area needs good clean
