Rosas & Xocolate Boutique Hotel and Spa Merida, a Member of Design Hotels

The rooms and the decor is very nice, but it was very noisy. We had a suite with pool view and we could hear everything from the reception and they (the staff mainly) were very loud… We also had a 5 course dinner reserved with their restaurant for New Year’s Eve, but it was really bland food and tasteless. During our entire 10days trip to Mexico, this was our worst dinner and it was also extremely expensive for the quality (payed appropriately 150 dollars pp..) the Stay was noisy but the decor and the rooms were really nice, but for the restaurant, we strongly recommend eating somewhere else.

We stayed at Rosas & Xocolate for 8 days and enjoyed every moment. The hotel is centrally located on the main paseo which made touring the local squares and other attractions easy to get to both day and night. Our room was comfortable - I slept soundly every night, the service was outstanding - the hotel was always clean and cozy, and the staff were friendly - always willing to help as needed. We took full advantage of all the services offered: spa, dining and their outdoor patios. We had dinner there late our first night after a long day of travel and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and great service. It was five stars above most other hotels' restaurants. Our room came with a complimentary breakfast. It too was delicious and had many choices, allowing us to try many local breakfast foods and beverages each morning. I would like to give a particular 'shout out' to Crisiant, the sales manager/concierge. He was extremely helpful in advance of our stay helping us arrange a private birding tour, sending us a list of excellent local restaurants within walking distance and rearranging our reservation and transportation from the airport on the fly when our stay was delayed due to an airline issues.

Many of the fixtures were dated, especially the bathroom sink and shower. Not enough hooks to hang towels. Lighting not very good in room. It all seemed dated for a high end hotel. Dinners and food in restaurant often good, but inconsistent, especially breakfast.

We had a reservation at the hotel from November 2 to 5. They gave us a dirty room with an old, crooked mattress, torn sheets, a dirty floor, and water leaking everywhere. We decided to leave the room on the 3rd and ask for a refund, but they refused.

Staff is very accommodating and attentive. Hotel was authentic to Merida. One did not feel you could be in anywhere in the world in a generic hotel room. The breakfasts in the restaurant were outstanding as were other meals. Tours arranged were informative and worthwhile.

Rooms need total updating and redesign. I had a suite overlooking the pool, except maybe that was 20 years ago. One could not see the pool anymore because of the tree canopy now. Also the picture posted on booking.com showed a room that had an outdoor balcony. Mine had no balcony. False advertising for sure. Also the large window was filthy and always had condensation on it. Get new windows. Yoga mats were absolutely disgusting. These are cheap to replace. There is no excuse. Hallways are way too dark at night. Downstairs entry area was nice. My room needs major updating. The deadbolt on my door was totally nonfunctional. I never worked from looking at it. I travel a lot. This was way overpriced. Stay someplace else. The staff told me she would pass on my observation that the booking.com photo was not what I got. I never heard back from anyone on this. Again staff was excellent from front desk staff, bell men and restaurant staff. Marriott needs to spend significant dollars on the property.
