Hampton Inn & Suites Marshalltown

The staff was well trained.

The breakfast was very commercial.....the same items every other day. And no bisquets and sausage gravy which is a Midwest staple

This Hampton needs to be redone. The bathroom was awful. Barely hot water and no water pressure. I've read the reviews (after our stay) and this is not new feedback.

I am not one to write reviews, but I feel that what happened at this hotel needs to be shared. I checked and everything was fine. The Front Desk Person Melanie N was great, very friendly and the room was decent. I was in one of the King Suites Room 329. After getting in my room after a 6-hour drive and getting something to eat I went to get some Ice. The ice machine broke on my floor, so I went up to the 4th floor no big deal. But this is when it went south. I couldn’t get back into my room. I went to the front desk to get a new key because we all know it happens cards get deactivated no big deal. Get the new key and head up to the room still won’t open. I did these 3 more times before Melanie walked up with me and mentioned that they had issues with this door before, but they were able to get it open after a few tries. Well, that didn’t work so she goes back down to bring up the electronic box that they can plug in and open it. Well, it’s the wrong cable. She is looking all over for this cable and can’t find it. She is calling the General Manager, Assistant manager, Maintenance Guy, and other employees to see if anyone knows where this cable is. No one can find it. She calls the GM and explains she can’t find it. They can’t get ahold of the maintenance person, and he is refusing to come in to take care of the issues. This is going on 2 hours of this. All my stuff is locked in the room. I didn’t even have a phone wallet or anything. The GMs suggestion is to put me in another room, and he would deal with it when he got in in the morning. This is when I have had enough. I politely ask Melanie N who has been so kind and apologetic through the whole thing to call the cops to see if they have a way to get into the room. In my opinion this is a huge safety issue if you can’t get into a room. Well, the cops are useless as well, they can’t do anything except kick the door down but because it is private property they can’t unless someone is in distress. I even explained to the GM and the cops at this point that I have medication that I have to take. It falls on deaf ears. After 3 hours of this, the Maintenance person shows up and he’s now looking for this magical cable and can’t find it. They end up calling the Holiday Inn next door and one of their employees comes over and has a tool that goes under the door to open from the inside. Well guess what theirs doesn’t work for that door. That’s when the maintenance worker goes “oh that’s what those are for we have two of them” he goes up and attempts to open the door for 45 minutes and still can’t get it. The guy in the room next to me had seen what was going on and assisted him and they finally were able to get it open 4 hours later at after 11:00 pm after a day of driving and a meeting with a customer at 7:00 in the morning. I told them to cancel the rest of my stay for the week, and I would be switching hotels in the morning. They would not refund my room. I didn’t get an apology from the useless management team who couldn’t even take the time to come in and address the situation. The only good thing I can say about this hotel is the very nice front desk working Melanie N who remained calm during the entire situation while continuing to apologize for it and for the horrible managers/ owners. I will be contacting Hilton as well as I am an avid Hilton member who travels a lot for business but that could be changing depending on how this situation is handled.

The staff was friendly, everything was clean and the continental breakfast was great.

A covered seating area outside for smokers would be great! And the doors close really loud. While in our room, we could hear every time other people were entering and leaving their rooms.

Sadly we will no longer stay at, it has gone downhill recently so fast it’s It has always been our top choice with no regrets except over the last few months it has gone down in maintenance, friendliness & cleaninness. Until something major changes we will sadly stay outside of the town & have to drive to spend time with our family

Absolutely wonderful. Only negative is the water pressure and heat weren't the greatest

I have stayed at a lot of Hampton Hotels and this one was only average. The staff were very friendly and nice and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was quite hit or miss. First day lots of the containers were empty. The second day had a nice selection, but the third day also had lots of empty containers. Perhaps they were just understaffed this week and did not have enough people to keep refilling the breakfast bar. The oatmeal I had was quite good, though.
