"Not the greatest "

4.0

Poor hotel, really out of date - rooms didn’t smell great and WiFi was hopeless, someone was also smoking in their room which made the smell even worse, staff were nice and tried, food was nice however took 2 and half hours to serve a 3 course meal for 1 person.

"Great facilities, dated rooms"

8.0

Great facilities, nice communal areas and delicious food. My room was rather old fashioned and could have been cleaner.

"A hotel in need of refurbishment."

4.0

Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, however the hotel was in need of being upgraded, stair carpets were sticky and dirty, paper peeling off the spa roof, outside window frames rotten - it’s a real shame since it was a lovely old building. Saturday cooked breakfast was served bespoke and was fresh and hot, however the Sunday ‘selfserve’ Buffet style was not as fresh and food was cold. Our room number 6 was directly below the breakfast room and from 06-30 onwards the sound of the kitchen swing door was really noticeable. It was a comfortable bed, bathroom was tiny. As a conclusion it will not be on my list of places to stay when I return to the area.

"The Popinjay is no longer a dandy"

4.0

my room was brown, very brown. Cracks in plaster, stain block paint on ceiling spilling over onto wall. Windows painted shut. Couldn't get the kettle under the tap. Knobs missing on bathroom towel radiator leaving sharp metal exposed. Net curtain would have been good. Lockers at pool don't lock... The shower was terrible. It's a very tired hotel.

"Short Stay"

A lovely area and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in need of a bit of TLC and the swimming pool needs attention but this could be a really good hotel

"tired rooms and not really dog friendly"

6.0

very accomodating staff as we had to move rooms until we found one that we could actually fit out dog in wiht us however the rooms are tired and dirty carpets, creacking floors and its more dog permitting, not dog friendly as rooms 2nd floor with loads of doors to open to get downstairs to let her out.. facilities are nice anc clean, hotel defo needs a refurb so overprices for that it is sadly..

"A lovely find "

10.0

I needed to stop off somewhere inbetween Sunderland and Ayr. This place suited and also had spa facilities. Nice pool and gym. The food was very nice including the breakfast and evening meal. Although the room look dated and shower pressure wasn't great a nice view onto the local garden centre and quiet area. The door was a bit stiff pushing against the carpet and noticed the window didn't close properly which could be an issue in winter fine when it was very warm. A comfortable bed. A great find would stay again
