Lea Marston Hotel

I was gifted a spa day as a present and decided to also book a room for the night so I could enjoy a bit of “me time”. When I tried to book the actual spa day, the computers were down and I was asked if they could call me back. This never happened and after waiting 4 days, I called again to book. After booking and choosing my treatments I was told I would get email confirmation and it would include instructions and treatment times. Again this didn’t happen and I had to call again to confirm this. On arrival I was given a menu to choose my lunch, a towel and robe and vague instructions as to where the pool was. It felt less than clean in the changing area, the pool was over run with children and a baby who cried for nearly an hour. Not at all relaxing to have kids jumping around, in and out of the jacuzzi, totally out of control. My lunch was at 12pm and my choice was not available so was offered an alternative, plain cod instead of sea bass. It was bland, not presented well. A piece of plain cod, 1 carrot, 1 parsnip and a roast potato and the apple pie was microwave heated and soggy. The chairs were ripped and dirty, I was not offered a drink, I had to ask for some ice for my water which was Luke warm. Nobody spoke other than to apologise for the 30 min wait for my food to arrive. The atmosphere was unwelcoming and felt more like a back street cafe. My spa treatments were a facial ( which was basic) and a pedicure which was actually just a file and polish. On checking into my room, I had pre-ordered Prosecco and chocolates. As I approached the table, the first thing I noticed was the glass flute had a bright red lipstick mark all around the rim. The ice bucket was just lukewarm water. I took the glass to reception and asked for a clean glass which I was given but no apology just what was my room number and that he would email the manager to report the dirty glass. I went back to my room to then discover the drawers were full of somebody else’s clothes. I was upgraded to another room but my relaxing experience totally ruined and questioning was my original room actually cleaned at all. I wasn’t offered any explanation and on checking out the following day, the receptionist just took my key card and said all checked out. I never heard back from management regarding the dirty glass and the fact there was someone else’s clothes in the room. This is certainly not the standard I would expect from a 4*hotel and certainly not worthy of 4* prices

Great location and clean. Not too badly priced either.

Pool was over crowded. Electric charge point took ages. You could pay £10 for an hour or £30 for as long as needed. I did the £30 option. Needed something from car and checked charge after an hour of it getting charged and it had gone up 4%. That’s a very slow charge and glad I didn’t £30 option. Booked for the restaurant and didn’t bother going after hearing people waiting an hour for food. Went to the highly recommended curry place behind the hotel. Food was expensive and very bland.

Superior rooms were very comfortable and had good facilities

Pool and spa area were a bit grubby, pool was very cloudy and there was a pool of water across most of the woman’s changing area in the afternoon which came above the plastic matting

Staff were brilliant and reactive to your requests…nice calm setting outside and inside, breakfast was nice, bar drinks nice. The suite we had was nice but could benefit with an update

Would have scored much higher but the spa was a little run down…nothing a handy man couldn’t fix..like doors painting and some broken tiles fixing…No aircon in the Kensington suite.
