Battlesteads Hotel

Great stay, good beer, good breakfast, nice touch with fruit bowl, tea coffee and biscuits in rooms.

A lovely warm, welcoming hotel with great food. We arrived on an extremely hot afternoon and it was great to unwind and have a cool drink in the lovely little garden.

Excellent staff, excellent service, a very friendly atmosphere and would recommend to everyone as a hotel worth staying at. We will definitely be coming back again.

Superior room fantastic - so much space, and a huge spa bath. Dual aspect windows, although not much of a view. Good quality tea and coffee, biscuits and fruit in room. Tasting menu superb. Enjoyed the observatory experience (albeit on the shortest night of the year!), and was surprised that we could actually see some planets with naked eye, as well as through telescope. Disappointing that the bar was closed to residents as well as public after 11pm. Breakfast was good and plentiful, but service at breakfast left much to be desired - very, very slow.

Well thought out eco friendly hotel. Solar powered, much thought put into natural products for the en suites, separate bins in the foyer so guests can recycle newspapers, cardboard, bottles etc. The Observatory in the grounds is an excellent resource and we thoroughly enjoyed our Star Gazing evening lead by Roy who explained everything so well and we were able to see Venus, Jupiter and other stars very clearly using the expensive telescope they have. Breakfast was good, quickly served, all cooked to order. However, the staff were poor, very dour, not at all welcoming. They need training in smiling and answering questions in a friendly manner. Such a shame as this spoils the whole experience of this otherwise lovely hotel.

Overall stay was excellent, a lovely quiet place and the night star gazing at the hotel's observatory exceeded expectations, however we were disappointed in the room and the fact that we were not made aware that the bathroom was for a disabled person and not one of the lovely bathrooms shown on the website. It felt like we were in a hospital with a seat in the shower, a very low sink, with no shelving nearby, big chrome bars and red emergency ropes. The room too was stated as 'ground level' but ours was below ground level looking out straight onto the GROUND of the car park, making it very dark inside which wasn't helped by the room being decorated with dark wallpaper with dogs on, black blinds, dark curtains and poor lighting - again nothing like the bright, pretty airy rooms shown on the website. Just disappointed and felt a bit cheated

Excellent hotel, room was huge with giant comfy bed and area with two sofas and coffee table with a complementary fruit bowl. Bar was normal pub prices and bar food and restaurant food was superb. Would highly recommend, especially if booked with the Observatory visit

would recommend this as a place to explore the area.

Food at restaurant was excellent. Really enjoyed both dinner & breakfast. Room was snug but clean. Fresh fruit upon arrival was a nice touch. Dog friendly although only certain rooms so call ahead. Nice walks nearby & good location to explore Hadrian’s Wall.

Stopped here previously so knew what to expect. We had an accessible room on the ground floor. Nice large comfortable bed. Home made biscuits and fruit still a nice touch. Good quality breakfast, think we were the last ones down at 10 past 9, so some items weren't replenished.
