Palacete Chafariz D'El Rei by Unlock Hotels

It was absolutely wonderful. The building is gorgeous and the location could not be better. Amazing breakfast and lovely staff. Tea on the veranda was a delight. I would live there forever if I could.

This is truly exceptional, in an early twentieth century palace with only six full suites (the luxury one on top with steps up to a 360-degree city view). It is on the river, in a fun neighborhood just north of the old city center, but itself quite historic with tile-fronted houses. The hotel/castle’s interior detail work and stain-glass windows are phenomenal. The service the most outstanding of all, and a delicious full breakfast, home-made and hot, served in any location desired. The entire large first floor is available for guests’ use, and the drawing room has an original very old globe to enjoy, as merely an example of all that has been saved as decor; the same for the original chandeliers. Do not miss this, if possible. Delightful, very special, far from the realm of even the most upscale hotels.

The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. They were very accommodating to our needs and always available.

Exceptional service, beautiful room, great location

It was the most pleasant of experiences from the time we were greeted at the front door until we left late the next morning having enjoyed just the perfect breakfast to send us on our way! The kindness extended to us was exceptional and the accommodations were more than satisfying

Do not stay in this hotel! We booked a room for three days. I soon as we checked in, we noticed a bad smell in our room. After 30 minutes we advised the manager the smell was so bad we could not stay there. The manager agreed there was a smell in the room, but said the refund was up to the top management. We left the hotel only to learn later that the hotel has a no refund policy and refused to give us any refund! In addition, the hotel looks nothing like the pictures. It is old and rundown like a grandma house.

Beautiful property that is a bed and breakfast. Could be great if they altered what was served for breakfast. 5 days and the same thing served each day. They should also set out a bar or wine and beer and some snacks each afternoon. Asked for breakfast the night before at 7:20 one morning and had to leave for a tour without eating because it was not ready. While we enjoyed our stay, it is certainly not at the 5 star level. With a little staff training, menu adjustments and some additional amenities they could get close.

The front desk staff, Xavier, Tiago, Bruno and Danilo went out of there way to provide a wonderful experience from our arrival to our departure from carrying our luggage up the stairs, making reservations, and securing taxis. Breakfast was excellent every morning, and we were provided a boxed breakfast with cappuccinos the morning we traveled to Sintra. The tower room was lovely with an amazing two level balcony. The area around the hotel, Alfama, was so charming and authentic. It was the perfect beginning to our vacation.

The hotel is truly beautiful! A wonderful experience. Had a different staff person each day but they were all helpful and friendly.
