"Great hotel if you drive"

10.0

Location was great, parking in lot right by hotel, or a lot they suggest. No breakfast, but there are a couple of great places to grab a croissant and cappucino. They were so helpful and interesting people, great wine shop and tasting too. Room was quiet even though it is on a main tourist area, it is still quiet at night. Room is a bit dated, but very clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

"Couldn't have been better"

10.0

I knew from other reviews that I'd made a good choice with Il Barlanzone but I wasn't expecting it to be just exactly right in every way. The location is ideal - at the top of the town just across the road from the historic fort and a stone's throw from an excellent restaurant and good breakfast bar. You can drop your bags off and then park the car for free just beneath the walls. The owner and manager, Simone, is wonderfully helpful and listens carefully to what you are looking for before coming up with various suggestions. He also runs a well-stocked wine shop and sells local oil, honey and other delights. The room was spacious, newly decorated and very clean. The bed was comfy, the wifi was fast and free and the view was beautiful. And the price was nice! A perfect weekend in every way.

"Quick autumn stay in Montalcino- beautiful."

8.0

Il Barlanzone is in a nice location near the fortress in the small town of Montalcino, which sits atop a hill that dominates the local terrain, providing beautiful views of the surrounding farmland/vineyards. The rooms are standard size for a European hotel, and Simone (proprietor) did everything he could to assist us during our stay, including fixing the drain in our shower the first day we were there. Breakfast of the Italian variety (coffee and a baked snack) can be found across the way at one of a few number of cafes in the pedestrian zone. We also were able to taste some of the "Il Barlanzone" Brunello, which was quite delicious and we ended up picking up a few bottles. Parking is free, but it's down the street a bit (5 minute hike) so recommend you do your loading/unloading in front of the hotel like we did. Simone or one of his employees will provide a parking permit from the town that needs to be displayed when you're away from the vehicle. Also, wi-fi was complimentary and we had no trouble streaming or downloading/uploading photos during the evenings. One thing we found very helpful about our stay was that Montalcino was also a great jumping off point for other locations like the town of Pienza, where they make fantastic pecorino cheese and honey, and of course many of the local agricolas where the infamous Brunello wine is produced. Within easy walking distance, there are several restaurants and enotecas (wine shops) that make finding a place to eat and drink very easy. All in all it was a great stay and solid value for the price. We would go back to Il Barlanzone again if we ever make it back to Montalcino.

"Great location, great place, lovely people"

8.0

We stayed several times at Il Barlanzone. The location is excellent (just opposite La Fortezza) so all the bedrooms have a lovely view. The rooms themself are lovely, modern, comfortable and spacious. The owner, Simone, is very friendly and helpful guy, that recommended us great places to eat and where to go. If you are looking for a place to stay, i will recommended it. They also have parking nearby so you can leave your car there after you left your luggage in the hotel.

"View a perfect Tuscan sunset from your own rooftop balcony!"

10.0

The highlight of our visit to Tuscany! The sunsets from the top floor balcony as we sat and sipped exquisite wine from the shop below us were amazing. Views to the Fortress, and out over the horizon as well as up to the village were a great backdrop for brunch on the balcony. Yes we did wander down to local cafes for great meals too. With easy parking, helpful friendly staff and just a short wander down to the village square it is a great location. The little kitchen was well appointed and the bedroom roomy and yet cosy. We could have stayed for a month! Thank you Simone!

"Nice apartment in great location!"

8.0

We stayed here three days in September (Room 1). Room 1 is on the first floor (2nd floor if you're North American) and is large and faces the front (very little street noise as it's primarily pedestrian-only). Nice room, very clean, good mattress, very decent bathroom. Everything seemed newly done. Simone was very helpful, as were the others in the wine shop below the apartments. Parking would be an issue at many places in Montacino but not here--there is free resident parking (Simone provides a permit) just below the fortress. The only problem was we were going to buy wine in the shop but it was closed when we left in the morning. This is a very nice place to stay, and very economical, in Montalcino. Good restaurants in the immediate area (see my review for Osteria di Porta al Cassero) and only about 300m. walk to the central piazza. And the fort is across the street! We used Montalcino as a base to visit Pienza and other nearby villages.

"Accommodating host, good location"

8.0

Simone was a great host, and was very helpful making reservations and recommendations. The room was simple, great for the price. Location was nice, with a view of the fort and a 5 minute walk to city center. Very European (i.e. small) shower and the bed wasn't overly comfortable, but we would stay there again regardless.

"Absolutely Perfect."

10.0

We stayed 6 nights in the apartment on the top floor of Il Barlanzone. What a wonderful way to enjoy all that Montalcino, and the rest of this area of Tuscany, has to offer. Having such an outdoor space such as the terrace this apartment provides adds so much more than a room in any hotel. Having the extra space of a small seating area, a nice kitchen and great bathroom besides just a bedroom makes staying here so much more enjoyable than a hotel. For the money there is no better value. The location is perfect for either people watching, relaxing while the village wakes up in the morning or enjoying a simple lunch on the terrace or a bottle wine in the evening. Simone is a great host. During the week prior to arriving we communicated regarding restaurants and the need for reservations as we were there during the Ferragosto holiday weekend. I mentioned that I was celebrating a birthday. On that day, answering a knock on the apartment door we found Simone with a fig tort made by his mother complete with birthday candle. The tort provide morning pastry for the rest of our holiday. We had considered a couple of other places to stay....one a hotel with a pool and the other, another apartment at the bottom of the hill from town centro. So glad we did not book those. This was everything we hoped for in an accomodation.
