Comfort Inn Santa Rosa on Route 66

I unfortunately stayed at the Comfort Inn in Santa Rosa, NM last night, and I truly wish I had followed my original instinct to immediately leave and drive to the next town. Unfortunately, almost everything nearby was booked, so this hotel was our only option after driving for 15 exhausting hours. From the moment we walked in, the hallways reeked of marijuana. When we entered our room, it smelled the same way — especially the bathroom. At first glance, the room looked “clean enough,” although the comforter was stained and the sink was partially clogged. We were exhausted, traveling with our 3-year-old, and just wanted to get some sleep before getting back on the road early in the morning. I figured I would simply leave a negative review afterward. What I discovered the next morning was absolutely disgusting. My 3-year-old had roughed up the bedding during the night, exposing what was underneath. The sheets and bedding had clearly NOT been changed from the previous guest. There was food and debris all over the bed underneath the covers. It was obvious and impossible to miss, meaning housekeeping either didn’t check the bed at all or simply did not care. What made it even worse was that it honestly looked intentionally hidden. The dirty, stained pillow had been placed underneath a cleaner pillow, and the comforter had been tucked in a way that appeared meant to conceal the mess and stains underneath. There is no way this was accidentally overlooked. My child slept in someone else’s filth. I was completely appalled. I immediately went to the front desk and waited over 20 minutes, but nobody ever showed up. We eventually had to leave to continue traveling, so I tried calling repeatedly afterward and still got no answer. Nearly two hours later, I finally reached someone. I was told by the front desk employee that the manager, Jasmine, would only offer points toward a future free stay. I made it very clear I would NEVER stay at one of these properties again. Jasmine was dismissive and unhelpful throughout the entire interaction. I then contacted corporate hoping they would make this right with a refund, especially considering the seriousness of the issue. Shockingly, corporate was just as unhelpful. I was told I “qualified” for compensation, but apparently their system only allows reimbursement through reward points instead of actual refunds. This was, without question, the worst hotel experience and customer service I have ever dealt with. A dirty room is one thing, but allowing guests — especially a child — to sleep in unwashed bedding from previous occupants is completely unacceptable and frankly disgusting. I have attached photos of the bedding.

Hallway floors were absolutely dirty. Staff seemed uninterested and annoyed. Side entrance door never locked. No elevators. Terrible parking. LVP floors are awful. The in-room coffee was bitter and bad.

Easy to access. It looks friendly.

The only problem I had was that the WiFi internet wasn’t easy to access.
