The George Christchurch

Overall, we were comfortable at the hotel — the room was enjoyable and the hotel in a nice location across from the park. We lacked complimentary water and felt the service fell short for the price paid (my expectations would be lower for a standard hotel, but it’s advertised as Small Leading Hotel of the World). One exception was Quentin in the restaurant. His level of service was outstanding and true example of what the service industry can be. Otherwise, front desk staff was average and we did not feel the same feeling as we do in other properties this level. The gym is nice and a separate building right next door. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom/shower nice except the sink area was small/cramped. We had breakfast at the restaurant which offered a variety of choices. With being right across from the park, that was nice. But it is a 15-20 minute walk to central business district which was fine but got a tad annoying after walking it 3 or 4 times.

Thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay here - our room was comfortable, clean and well maintained, and the location of the hotel was perfect for exploring Christchurch on foot and particularly for visiting the botanic gardens and Hagley Park. Breakfasts were great. Most importantly, though, all of the staff we came into contact with were delightful and extremely helpful - Mark, the concierge, deserves special mention. Would be delighted to have the opportunity to stay here again.

Great location to walk to town. Professional and helpful staff. Took our bags to our room. Helped with directions to walk to city center. Very nice smaller hotel to stay at!

We are avid world travelers and have stayed at MANY SLH properties. While the staff at The George in Christchurch NZ are very good, the property does NOT belong on the SLH list. I understand the difficulty the city has experienced since 2011, and my heart goes out to what the community has endured, however this hotel is neither luxury nor a 5 star accommodation. It is horribly run down and not even clean. The dust on the window shades is MONTHS old, the furniture is rotting and damaged and some amenities, ie the CD player boom box, are relics of decades past. The “king” beds are two twins shoved together which even cruise ship have either abandoned or at least have mattress covers that are so comfortable you would never know it was two twins shoved together, which is NOT the case at The George. The hall carpets are old worn and stained. I could go on, but you get what I’m conveying. I have attached some photos to prove my point. All said, a property of this caliber diminishes your brand and our faith in using your brand as a litmus test as to properties we will choose in the future.

Stayed here as an end of holiday break (we'd been touring for a month) hotel did not disappoint. Excellent room staff and restaurant

Concierge Service The concierge service, especially Mark, was excellent. He was exceptionally helpful and made the stay more enjoyable through his attentive and personal service, which truly set the tone for a welcoming arrival. Room Comfort and Cleanliness The bed was very comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The room itself was clean and well-maintained, though its décor felt somewhat old-fashioned. Nonetheless, the cleanliness and comfort outweighed the dated style, allowing for a pleasant stay. Amenities and Issues The only downside was that the in-room safe did not work, which was inconvenient given the need to secure valuables. Improving this aspect would enhance the overall guest experience. Overall, this hotel delivered excellent service and comfort, with minor drawbacks in facilities.

The staff and room were lovely. I was there on business and unfortunately didn't have enough time to enjoy the facilities. Would definitely return based on my experience and from what I saw.

The George's friendly staff are always welcoming & ready to assist us when we arrive. Our room is always immaculate, comfortable & well presented. The meals are very enjoyable. We will always stay at The George in Christchurch it is the best.
