Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel

Amazing facilities for kids- 5 pools, multiple play areas, and lots you could book for different ages- football, kids yoga, swimming lessons.. while plenty for the parents too, PT sessions, adult pool time etc! Accommodation was also great (we had a garden apartment). very big space, and super comfortable we all slept so well there. The whole resort is much bigger than you’d expect.. the garden apartments are 10/12 min walk to the beachfront pool shown in all pictures- but the layout is very clever so we had nearest pool 30 seconds from us , and another 5 min walk, and the adult pool 2 mins walk. so you always close by one of them.

As with many other reviews - the food standard I think just needs some work compared to the rest of the standard of facilities- so worth knowing before you go. I didn’t think it was too expensive (if it had been better standard!) but very basic /low quality pizza/ salads in the market square restaurant, and heard someone send back a steak on our first night. Beach club food for lunch was a little better- average poke bowls/ burgers. We went into Sagres for dinner after that, and some amazing restaurants there - Laundry Lounge and Three Little Birds are a must! (So just get a car and you’ll have a perfect trip).

1 room appartment are old (old baths), way too small gym, long distance from the edges from the resort (we took the car every day with the kids; hence offer cart service). main reception house restaurant is def not 5*, the rest is rather weal (3-4* standards) work with more fresh products

Great for kids especially younger ones, nice location

Showers and changing room for the indoor pool area are very cramped and don't feel as clean and comfortable as the rest of the resort. Restaurant prices are Dublin/London rates and there's a big difference when you go to a local restaurant and get much better food for 1/3rd cheaper. Some of the food is nice but mostly it's overpriced, repetitive and mediocre food quality that doesn't match the high prices.

The small apartments are well equipped - everything needed is available. It’s comfy and cozy. The beach area is also very nice situated - the sundown is visible. As we were at Marthinal during January there were also enough parking lots available at any time The sports bar is a nice place to have drinks :).

The gym is in comparison to all other facilities of this institution fairly badly equipped and way to small for the amount of people potentially visiting it. We were there every day - to different times during the day. It was always very full - full means 5 people :). Additionally one thing that I found a bit unprofessional - they advertise the TechnoGym equipment- yes it’s available but Marthinal saved themselves to not buy the Abonnement of TechnoGym as so the potential of them is limited. Same for the gym is happening for the sauna area - it’s very small. Bathrobes weren’t available two times. Cleaning of the small apartments just happens after 3 days - in between the staff just collects rubbish. They don’t clean the bathroom nor do the bedroom - even-though we requested daily cleaning.
