1864 The Sea Captain's House

Perfect location in the heart of Oia, but still quiet. Loved the patio and breakfast!! I highly recommend this hotel. It's in a better location than many of the bigger resort-type hotels and has much more charm.

The location is unbeatable. Wedding couples have professional photographers taking there pictures just outside the courtyard. The canopy bed on the main floor was very romantic. The breakfast under the umbrella in the courtyard was a perfect start to the day. The owner was always available to offer suggestions and take care of reservations.

We had a wonderful experience in Santorini. The hotel was perfect and the host exceptional. The view was incredible and we cannot wait to get back and spend more time on this beautiful island. Highly Recommended!

An incredible hotel. One of the very, very best. The manager, Takis, from the moment we arrived until we left was the perfect host. He gave great advice on restaurants, how to get places and anything we asked! Imagine eating a really fine breakfast on your terrace overlooking the caldera. Imagine an updated historic hotel. Imagine really wanting to come back to this hotel. The location was also perfect. Not as many steps as other hotels and definitely a very scenic spot (lots of folks wanting to take photos near the hotel). I loved that the wi fi was high speed and functioned well. I loved this small lovely hotel.

The Sea Captain's House is the type of place you are scared to share about for fear that it will become too popular and you will struggle to book it next time. But frankly, it would be unfair not to say that this is one of the most magical and special places we've visited. My wife and I spent 5 nights of our honeymoon in the Sailing Suite. The view is breathtaking and you find yourself in the spot where many tourists can only hope to stand for a photo or two. The breakfast served on your terrace every morning is a highlight. You think you will get used to the view, but we found ourselves feeling inspired and overwhelmed with joy every morning as we sat with our delicious freshly made breakfast including croissants, feta cheese and other local products, fruits, whatever you want. Conveniently, they leave you a form to fill out every evening indicating what you want the next morning. Takis and Dimitra who run the hotel are so kind, attentive, and thoughtful when helping you plan out every detail of your trip to Santorini. This is not a resort like some of the other spots on the island. But with their attentiveness and personal attention to detail, you don't need all the other amenities that a resort may provide. Oia is the most special place on the island and the Sea Captain's house feels to be at the very heart of it. Remarkable place.

A great place to stay with lots of history and character. We stayed in the Captains Suite which was huge, lots of room for the four of us.The hotel is actually a house built into the side of the hill. The church with the blue domes is right outside. There is a large patio, but you have to stand or sit on one of the two elevated spots to see the water. Romy serves you breakfast on your private patio. Tony the owner arranged to have us picked up from the ferry and met us on our arrival with the luggage donkey. He even got up at 4:00 AM, to see us off on our way to the airport. Tony was always available for where to go eat or any other information. You are also right in the middle of the main area of town.

We could not have been happier with the experience. The views were like a postcard and the staff was amazing!! Tony made our 20th anniversary one we will never forget! The rooms were spacious with very nice touches! The breakfast was well worth it !!! Our only regret is that we could not have stayed longer ! The rooms were very clean and truly met all of our expectations! Listen to Tony!! He knows the area, best dining locations, and great suggestions on things to do from going to the beach to sunset cruises!

Cars and taxi's are not permitted to drive past a certain point in Oia...we were greeted by Tony and a "luggage donkey" who carried our luggage for us on the short walk to our beautiful accomodations. We arrived early for check in, but were allowed to stow our luggage in our accomodations and were invited to the reception area where we could sit and talk with Tony and Antonio of Caldera Spa. Tony gave us the name of two places for lunch...we chose one for our official food introduction on Santorini and it was wonderful. We stayed in the Falling Stars House, one of the four properties from 1864 Sea Captain's House. It is more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel space...it was comfortably and elegantly furnished with a plush four poster bed and antiques. The view from every angle is breathtaking. Romi brought our breakfast served on white Wedgewood china every morning and assisted us with questions about the area. She was delightful. It is centrally located and Oia is easily walkable. I highly recommend the Sea Captain's House. It was an amazing home base with startlingly beautiful views from every angle. I did not see the other properties, but if this one is available, I would request it.

Tony provided excellent attention to every detail of our stay from the moment of booking. He welcomed us before arrival, sent a car to pick us up from the airport, met us to show us to the room and provided a means to get our luggage up to the room without us lifting a finger. The breakfast provided was delicious and his advice on restaurants and sites to see were invaluable! i would definitely say you should book this hotel!

The best place I have stayed in through-out my two and a half months of travel. Stayed in the Captain's Room with canopy bed and private courtyard and it was perfect. The attention to detail was wonderful and had the best massage from Antonio. Tony has travelled widely and it is obvious he has taken this experience to make his accomodation as perfect as possible. Romi was fantastic providing a great breakfast every morning and with wonderful chats. My only advice is if travelling through out Europe, don't make this your first stop, you'll be sorely disappointed in all the rest of the accomodation you come across. I highly recommend the Blue Lagoon sunset yacht cruise. It takes small groups of around 8 people and this was a highlight for me. Dinner was sensational.
