1864 The Sea Captain's House

1864 The Sea Captain's House was located at one of the most scenic spots in the town of Oia, with one of the best views of the rest of town and the water. Our particular room had beautiful antique furnishings and a patio where they served amazing breakfasts each morning. The staff was extremely helpful, arranging our taxi from the port, meeting us at the edge of town, taking our luggage to the hotel by donkey, and sitting with us to help us make our plans and restaurant reservations. The only negative was our 2 showers had no curtains so the floor got very wet.

We absolutely loved our stay here, and would most definitely return in the future! It was a little slice of Santorini heaven, and definitely exceeded our expectations! Our stay began with Gianns, the most popular donkey on the island, taking our luggage to the property for us. The view is absolutely exceptional, which is proven with all the tourists that stop in front of the property to take pictures. This historic building is romantic and gives you an authentic, but comfortable and sophisticated experience. Breakfast in the morning was the best we had throughout all of Greece. It is in a perfect, central location in Oia; giving you an incredible view of the Caldera, but a staircase below the main street with easy access to shopping and restaurants. Rather than a guest at a hotel, this property allows you to feel like a local truly experiencing the culture of the town. Highly recommend this property!

We stayed three nights in the Sailing Suite after doing research on potential places to stay. I am 100% satisfied with that choice. The caldera view is excellent, so that is great for having the top-notch breakfast served on terrace as well as for sitting comfortably outside both before and after the sunset observing the churches, houses, etc cascading down the cliffside. In walking around Oia (and Fira and Pyrgos), I also learned to appreciate that some other places also have nice views (although not necessarily superior); however, most of them do not provide the privacy we enjoyed (our heads could be seen from some but not many places at a distance), as we were above most places. The proprietor, Takis, was waiting along with the donkey and delivery-man to carry our bags the little way from the minibus stop to our room. This excellent service he provides included especially good practical recommendations on many aspects of seeing things of interest to us during our stay. The other staff members are also very cheerful and friendly.

This was the best place I've ever found through Expedia....ever. Excellent accommodations, food, and service. I can't say enough great things about The Sea Captain's House OR the folks who run it. HOME RUN!!!

Oia Santorini is now the number one holiday destination in the world and along with this comes thousands of people. The location of this cave house was outstanding but had no privacy as thousands of people gather weekly for photo shoots and selfies. Why because the views are amazing so if you can handle people then you get one of the best positioned houses on the Island.

We were met at the airport by two polite young men who took care of our luggage and took it upto the van. We had two other families who got off at other resorts along the way. At the end of the drive, we were met by Takis and his donkey driver. Again all luggage went on the donkey and we had a pleasant walk down to the resort. The man is a true host and made sure we understood the lay of the island and all the activities we could do, including some great restaurants. We just followed his suggested schedule. Now about the suite. We were in the Captain Suite and it is just brilliant. Full of old traditional style furniture and design, yet with all modern trappings. It got quite hot in the day but our ac was so good it was able to cool down the hige room in minutes. There is a main bedroom with comfortable chairs and a recliner. The bed is a full four poster and very very comfortable. The upstairs room is perfect for the kids and equally comfortable. We loved the breakfast we were served daily on our balcony. Being small eaters, a lot of left overs got left and was quite embarassing. Eggs, cheeses, ham, orange juice, various breads, jams, tea and coffee. Whew. And ofcourse, there is the small matter of the view. Well some things cannot be expressed only experienced. My suggestion, if you can find this gem empty, don't think twice PS There was a problem with the card I had used to book. Takis was very cool about the episode. I just used another card and that worked out well.

The Sea Captain's house made our stay in Santorini amazing. It is in a Fantastic location. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. Tazik was especially helpful in giving us a good orientation to the property and areas of Santorini. He also made our transportation and excursion arrangements.

amazing place - unique, beautifully designed, perfectly located, and an amazing view from the terrace. Stayed in the Sailing Suite, which in terms of view/outdoor space is the best one - shares a large terrace with the adjoining suite but has the larger space and better view. suites downstairs are larger and would be great for a group

A wonderful place to stay with very nice staff. It was as pictured and described. Great accommodations built the traditional Santorini method into the mountain. Magnificent view from the relaxing porch while having breakfast or just lounging. Excellent location.

Beautifully restored mansion with antiques and vaulted ceilings. The property is right in the heart of Oia with gorgeous views of the caldera and town. The GM and his wife are warm and service oriented, giving great suggestions and custom advice depending on your desires for the day. From the car service pick up at the ferry to the daily breakfast, everything was special and treated with care.
