The Palace Hotel

Very good prices options, very nice staff and service. Location is perfect by the seafront and town centre. Very nice and varied breakfast.

The hotel is in a fantastic location and from the outside, exudes Victorian Seaside Glamour. Inside is sadly a very different situation. The hotel is crying out to be revamped, the decor is tired and old and not reflective of the hotel and its history. Our room was massive, but had very little furniture in and and was poorly laid out. Staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I would love to see this hotel get an overhaul, but due to its great location, I don't know that Radisson see many benefits in investing.

When we arrived at 7.30pm our room wasn’t ready, given check in was from 3pm! The receptionist said there had been a problem with the room and it was being cleaned. He gave us 3 drinks vouchers and said come back in 15-20mins or so. We were going to a party that started at 8pm. We went to the bar for drinks, which had glasses everywhere, kids running around and just not a very nice atmosphere. My daughter used the toilet and a child was vomiting in the next cubicle. She had to lift her feet up for the vomit not to go over her. We finally got into our room at 8pm and the key card wouldn’t put the electric on. I went back to reception and the receptionist was very dismissive and said I can assure you the keys will work. He told me they needed to click and make a sound for them to work. The room was dirty, the shower cubicle had a long hair in it. The room was really hot and we were unable to change the temperature. We were unable to open the windows too. The carpets felt grubby and I felt uncomfortable to walk bare feet anywhere in the room. I had cancelled our premier inn as I thought this hotel would be nicer, how wrong could I have been! And to get just 3 free drinks was an insult!

Absolutely loved it! The sea view was amazing and I particularly enjoyed the short walking distance between the hotel and adventure island.

We stayed in room 416. Although the staff couldn’t be more helpful, the corridor smell of gone off cigarettes, there were multiple stains in the room, including what appeared to be blood and semen. On top of the poor quality room, we continuously had to visit reception as the keycards wouldn’t work. One receptionist also confirmed the main door on our floor has been constantly breaking since it was serviced. Worst hotel I have stayed in! Avoid at all costs

Hotel is run down and desperately needs some money spending on it. Stains on the carpets in the room, the shower was worn out, there was a balcony but there was a security cable on the door to stop you going out. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel at all.

unfortunately I had a bad stay, the hotel is tired everywhere. the carpets in particular were horrible. and the surrounding area is not a nice place to be, a colleague of mine said that she wouldn't want to walk around on her own. The carpark you have to park in is £25 per night as well. I wont be going back to the hotel or Southend

Basic hotel but reasonable value for money

Lovely sea view but unfortunately thats all it has going for it.

This was a very poor hotel. The 1st room was abysmal. Filthy carpets and the sea view was marred by a dirty window and a balcony that was covered in cigarette butts, bird droppings and used tissues! The 2nd room was a little better but way below what we expect of a hotel with such a grand name. I woukd never stay here again. I wish i took a B&B. So much cleaner. We were disgusted!!!
