Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana - Adults Only - All Inclusive

Loved our girls trip to Secrets Royal Beach, the service was above and beyond, food was top notch, French restaurant was my favorite,and pool/beach were gorgeous. Activities were a bonus, water aerobics and water cycling were fun and hilarious! So many people made our trip special: Angel, Wilson and Winter at the pool bar, Jose V at the beach bar, Luis at the lobby bar, Cindy at check in, Denise and Miguela at Coco Cafe, and Rachel who make my omelette every morning! So many more... Waiters at dinners, Caesar at the Italian restaurant, Anuedi at Bluewater Grille... Ten stars would highly recommend this resort!

We loved our visit and the staff were friendly and welcoming! Everything was as expected and the resort was clean. Our Concierge Alberto made our stay even better than we expected and everyone took the time to ensure we were enjoying our stay. My only complaint: the vultures from Unlimited Vacation Club that tried to take advantage of us and sell us a time share. We don’t realize what they were trying to sign us up for and then once we did and politely declined they kept pushing us - bordering on harassment - and guilt tripping us into not showing up to the seminar. We thought this was part of the upgrade we did and didn’t realize they were trying to sell something additional.

Excellent food and drinks. Beautiful white sand beach with drink service and plenty of shaded lounge chairs. Wonderful staff. Room was very clean. Pool was enormous.

We just returned from a 7-day trip at Secrets Royal Beach. We had been there once before, but it was right as the island was shutting down due to Covid, so we decided to give it another try. Here is our review: The resort is only 20-25 minutes from the airport, and is situated on a beautiful beach with unlimited walking in either direction. We used Mike Fisher Tours and Travel for transfers to/from the airport. It was seamless, and they were very easy to find once exiting the airport. The resort itself is beautiful. The grounds and buildings are very well maintained. There are several large pools, and numerous small pools. Plenty of options for a day lounging by the pool. Beware, though, the towel game is very strong at this resort, so early morning towel placement is a must if you want a specific spot. The restaurants and entertainment areas are centrally located, and just a short walk no matter where you are staying on the resort. We walked the beach a lot, but if that isn't your thing the resort itself is very walkable. There is a wonderful wooden walkway that traverses a lagoon just outside the Dreams main entrance. Tons of wildlife to see, and it is beautifully lit for an evening stroll. The atmosphere at Secrets Royal Beach is lively. There is daily entertainment around the pool as well as on the beach. They bring in excellent performers for their nightly entertainment, and it was always enjoyable to watch and listen. There was always music around the large main pool, which helped contribute to a fun atmosphere. If quiet is your thing, there were plenty of smaller pool options where it was much quieter. We stayed in a Preferred King Jr. Suite on the 4th floor. It was spacious, always immaculately clean, and we had beautiful views of the ocean and overlooking the pools. The food at this resort was excellent. We enjoyed all the restaurants, our favorites being El Patio (Mexican), Olio (Mediterranean), and Portofino (Italian - on the Dreams resort). Get the calzone at Portofino! Our favorite aspect of this resort was the people. Every single staff member we interacted with was kind, respectful, and fun! Several staff members stood out to us: Serenia was an incredible waitress around the main pool, and she was so kind and sweet. Jorgi (Activities) was wonderful to talk to every day. He had an infectious personality, and it contributed to the daily fun we had. Finally, our butler Eddy was exceptional. We are pretty low-maintenance on our vacations, so we normally don't use the butlers that often. However, his attention to detail and daily check-ins ensured that we had everything we needed on this vacation. We have been to Secrets resorts 8 times, and we now have a new favorite. Between the incredible staff, beautiful grounds, and excellent food and drinks, we cannot recommend this resort enough! My wife and I just got back from a one week stay in the Preferred Club section. The good news: The grounds and facilities were five star. The not so good: There are not enough à la carte restaurants so you can just walk in, there could be an hour wait; there is not enough seating area (chairs) around the preferred pools (you had to be up by 6:30 to claim one). The food was very good, but I’d say not to the level of a Sandals.

Great resort. Your treated well by everyone. Angel at the pool bar was incredible. Food and drinks were very good, no complaints at all.

My recent trip to Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana was absolutely fantastic. It was a work trip for a group of 80 people, and the resort handled our large number flawlessly. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating, always going above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Their genuine warmth really made a difference. The resort's location is stunning—the beach was truly beautiful and pristine, offering a perfect, tranquil escape. We had ample opportunity to relax and enjoy all the resort offers despite being there for business. A major highlight was the food! The main buffet was amazing, offering a great selection of high-quality food that was always hot and properly cooked. It was a pleasure to dine there every day. We had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this resort for an unforgettable vacation!

Great service, plenty of chairs on the beach and pool. Food was good everywhere but the steakhouse. The steakhouse has an amazing seafood appetizer get a couple of those. The French restaurant had a lamb shank that was perfect. The ladies in the coco cafe were amazing.

There are aspects of this hotel that are good but overall it is not 5 star and certainly not worth the expense and the extra charges like their ”Preferred Club”. Our personal experience of the Preferred Club is that it just did not live up to the price tag and was extremely poor value. When a hotel is described as an “All Inclusive” you would expect it to be exactly that, not find out after arrival hidden extra charges and limitations. It certainly did not compare favorably with other 5 star hotels we have stayed in on other islands. Before I go into detail about our experience let me tell you about what is 5 star at this Hotel. The staff at ground level are lovely and the service in the restaurants is generally good to excellent. I tipped after all our evening meals because they deserved it. The beach immediately in front of the hotel is well kept and the seaweed harrowed up almost daily by a tractor from the hotel. It is well floodlit at night and there is a noticeable security presence. The entire beach is quite long and busy at times and if you walk north of Secrets it is not as well kept as the hotel area or south of it. You will encounter the heaps of seaweed, glass bottles and other rubbish. You will need your bug spray on your legs in the beach area. So now I will continue with what was not so 5 star. Several days prior to our departure I emailed the Secrets Royal Beach Hotel Punta Cana informing them that I was a World of Hyatt member and enquired about their “Preferred Club” and what were the benefits. I also informed them that our holiday was a special treat to celebrate my recent birthday and our wedding anniversary. I did not receive any acknowledgement or a reply which I found quite strange compared to other hotels we have stayed in. It seemed to set the tone for our stay at the Secrets Royal Beach which was plagued by a lack of communication between departments and a series of small irritating issues that you would not expect from any hotel let alone a 5 star Hotel. We arrived In the evening and the actual room was ok but the decor was tired and needed updating. In the morning, we could see the view from the balcony in no way resembled the room description. I can understand the need to sell the product by possibly glossing up the description, but this was blatant misrepresentation. It was described as “ The Junior Suite Tropical View features views of the lush tropical gardens, a king bed, and Caribbean style décor, All inclusive”. The view from our room actually overlooked a service road, a hotel maintenance depot and the hotels boundary fence topped with coiled razor barbed wire. Just the other side of the hotel’s boundary fence was a 10 to 15 feet wide strip of jungle (not owned by the hotel) and beyond that was a barren rubble filled area that looked like a building site with partially constructed seemingly deserted buildings. We went down to reception and said that the room view did not match the description. The receptionist stated that there was some greenery outside our window. We stated that strip of green was not owned by the hotel and it was not lush tropical Hotel gardens. He then stated he had only two other rooms in the whole hotel he could offer us. One was on the opposite side of the hotel from our previous room which overlooked the rear of their sister hotel Dreams with a few trees and shrubs dividing the hotels with a king bed. The other choice was two double beds, ground floor and a similar view with a small private pool but it would cost us over an extra $2,000. We did not want separate beds or to share a bed smaller than our original booking. So we opted for King bedded room which had a slightly better view than our original room but in no way could match the room description. In a desperate bid to enjoy our holiday at all costs we agreed to the offer to upgrade to their Preferred Club for about an extra $1470 which equated to £1,125.81. This divided between the 2 of us over the remaining 8 nights, worked out at about £70.37 per night per person. This turned out to be extremely poor value and probably our biggest mistake. I am a great believer in that sometimes you get what you pay for but on this occasion I was totally wrong. For the £1,125.81 we did not receive any room upgrade. There were areas that were supposed to be for Preferred Club members only but I saw no evidence that this was ever policed. Most mornings the loungers around the small club pool areas were taken prior to 8 am and so were the beach areas. Despite the signs prohibiting this practice in all areas, again I saw no evidence of anyone’s towels or belongings being removed. It is stated that premium spirits are served to Preferred Club Members but in our experience you did not have a clue what you received especially in cocktails which were very inconsistent in quality. Wine seemed to be a total lottery depending on which bar or restaurant you were served in and it was generally poor quality. The Al a carte restaurants did have a good wine list which had several wines I was familiar with but unlike the spirits there were no premium wines available to Club members or any price concessions. The wine list was vastly overpriced and there were not any half bottles of wine listed available during all our stay. After we paid to join the Preferred Club we were shown to one of the Club Lounges to await our Butler who was going to arrange our room transfer. He gave my wife his WhatsApp so we could contact him and he would let us know when the room was ready. We then returned to our original room, repacked our bags and took the bare minimum essentials with us to try and relax and enjoy our holiday. We felt we were in limbo and were periodically checking to see if our room was ready and not venturing too far afield incase we were required to move rooms. We felt that we had totally wasted the first day of our holiday and could not truly relax. Eventually we agreed to meet our butler at 4pm at our original room and he promised to personally supervise our luggage transfer. 4 pm came and went several messages came from our butler ultimately culminating in an apology because the other guests he was dealing with were taking longer than expected. To cut a long story short the room change was a total fiasco that was time consuming and defied logistical common sense. It does not matter what star the hotel is what we encountered was one poor level of service after another. Our replacement room was not really an improvement, the view was marginally better but the room had been poorly prepared. The shower head was blocked and was a trickle but after we had it rectified the water pressure was poor. Not wanting to change rooms again we decided to just make do which resulted in longer showers. During our remaining 8 nights we encountered on one or more occasions we had no bathrobes, no cups, no glasses, no bottled drinking water ( you can not drink the tap water), Mini bar fridge not replenished, No coffee or creamer, room not made up, light fittings not working. The duvet cover kept being put on the bed upside down so the opening was at the pillow end. We made requests via the hotel app which were never acknowledged or acted upon. The room phone either did not work properly or most of the departments just did not answer. We gave a hours notice for a bottle wine to be delivered to our room. We requested Sauvignon Blanc over 2 hours later and chased up via our Butler we got delivered Chardonnay. On another occasion the wine just failed to arrive and so I managed to catch the pool bar before it closed and took two glasses of wine back to the room. Sometimes I walked down to the Gym to get bottled water because we had none in the room. We got fed up with having to chase up the simplest item that any other hotel would do as a matter of course. The only things I would say were very good was the food and the restaurants. Service was excellent and the French restaurant was our favorite but the system of getting a table was not to everyone’s liking and we witnessed some very irate and aggressive guests. With the A’ la Carte restaurants you were given an electronic paging device and asked to wait sometimes over an hour. No fault of that particular restaurant’s receptionist, it was just that the system they had to use and that there were not enough restaurants to cater for all the hotel guests. The staff at the ground level were lovely but throughout the hotel there seemed to be a system/ management problem and a lack of communication between departments. We paid for a late check out which we thought was a quite reasonable charge but our confidence in the hotel was gone so we triple checked that we had got it. Our Butler arranged for our bags to be collected from our room at 3pm and transported to reception for us to meet our prearranged taxi at 3.30pm to the airport. After experiencing the fiasco regarding our room change and not wanting to miss our taxi, we waited until nearly 3.10pm before taking our own bags to reception and settling the bill. Our butler was already in reception and again he was full of excuses why the service was not on time where a simple apology would have sufficed. A taxi was beckoned immediately and after we got in and it exited the driveway it was the first time we had ever felt such a sense of relief leaving a holiday hotel. In summary this hotel was in no way five star or an all inclusive and extremely poor value. The description of the hotel and in particular the room’s view was misrepresentation. To underline the misrepresentation, their own simplified paper map of the hotel shows the beach as west facing when it is actually east facing, There seemed to be extra costs at every turn and even the promise of discount vouchers upon check in had strings attached because you had to attend a hard sell holiday club meeting. The Preferred Club I felt was a total con and in no way was it policed to be exclusive to justify the extra cost. In was just one disappointment after another.

Secrets Royal Beach was great! Super chill vibes. The entertainment team and Pool Bar staff were the best part of the stay! Michael Jordan, Coco Chanel, Junior, and Jorgey were so much fun and felt like family by the time we left, we wanted to oack them up in our bags! Melvin and Angel at the pool bar are the best, they made my day every morning with their happy hellos! The staff are what make this place GREAT!
