"Was my apartment double-booked?"

Generally the stay was pleasant except for an incident when we first arrived at the apartment. I was shocked to find someone in our designated apartment. A lady had been using the room when my wife and I arrived around 9 pm. When I confirmed my apartment (No. 3) with a sms sent by Vic of Drummond then she got out of the room. By then, the bed was in a mess, the kitchen sink had dishes in it. Can someone explain to me about the mix-up in booking?
